There was nothing hateful or bigoted about it...your usage of "retarded" wasn't used properly, and I equate that to nothing more than grade school name calling when you have nothing more educated to say.

This sentiment is carried over from another post where it was pointed out that those, (many, but not all), who are homosexual are quick to utilize their "rights" to protest and gain equality, yet are equally quick to try and suppress those same rights when exercised by others who oppose them. We all either have the same rights or we don't, but once you go down that slippery slope of bullying the opinions of others, even when they are supported by authoritative statements, then you do nothing but hurt yourself in the long run.

When directly attacked with absurd accusations, homosexuals are quick to jump on the "bigot" bandwagon as a means to bully the opposition into silence. However, when someone brings science, authority or research into the equation, the reply is no different. Why can't everyone just have a civilized discussion, removed from the "act" itself? I, for one, have been waiting for this. Simply addressing the question of DNA evokes rage and all sorts of unfounded accusations from the other side, which is sorely unfair. Are we living in times when asking simple questions is no longer a freedom without persecution? I hope not.

Don't know about you, but I sure as hell fell morally superior to those who force children or animals into sexual relations. That article states one fact(there's no scientific proof that homosexuals are born that way), and then goes on the most opinionated bigoted rant I've ever seen. I mean look at the title..."people with integrity." Just because someone falls for propaganda, doesn't mean they lack integrity.

When I first saw the thread the headline grabbed me ". . . the facts about homosexuality." I was intrigued, not knowing many facts about it and was anxious to learn. Well, I went through the thread and found nothing. Oh, there we're people yelling at each other and calling names, but no solid information.

I thought that if I dug up a few facts of my own, we could get the thread to a discussion of the facts. I didn't want to give up on the thread because there was so much interest in it, and I still had hope.

So, my first fact was that gays were about three per cent of the population. Nobody siad a word. I looked up the CDC and reported the facts you're asking about.

Thanks for showing some interest, but why do you think I was saying that anything is wrong? I wanted facts to look at, not conclusions or opinions to beat someone over the head with.

While I'm not saying anything is right or wrong, will you agree with me that the facts indicate that certain behaviors are very risky and some groups get infected more than others? Maybe we can build from there. I'm hoping to get a few more facts.

As far as being better at promoting safe sex, haven't we been at that for years? I'm not saying stop the promotion, but some people refuse to give up smoking in spite of the evidence, couldn't that be the case here?

I'm not looking for a fight, just information. Thanks for your interest.

You say you don't have a problem with gayness...seems you do. that list was new to me (heman? really? you gotta really be wanting to see gay to see heman as gay)
And so, lets say for a instant that is exactly what the media was doing...trying to let gay kids relate to some characters in an otherwise saturated straight market.
Is every character on every show gay? no...a small segment have innuendos pointing at it...equal to about the small percentage of gay people in society.
if it was trying to push people into being gay, then pretty much everyone whom grew up watching snagglepuss would be gay.

I think an argument can be made about such cartoons making people more comfortable with their feelings, but turning people gay?
Basically, if someone can turn you gay...then you weren't turned gay...you were gay all along. the argument holds no weight.

He wasn't saying that it turns people gay, only that it is influencing the younger generation to be more susceptible to a gay society.

You have to wonder about supposedly straight folk who think about homosexuality all the time...think about it, if I lived a monkly life but thought about what BDSM folks did beyond a natural curiosity to understand and posted about it on ATS about all those naughty things they do and how it makes me quiver in horror and how it must surely be unnatural, you'd have to wonder why I care about something so much that really dosn't effect my monkly life.

Who is most effected by homosexuality---homos, hetros, culture, children? Does it truly NOT hurt anyone?
Why would people remain nuetral to homosexuality, if it does have health and social risks...
Is being gay, really about sexual freedom?
Is it possible to explore the facts, even if they come from a bigoted perspective?

My personal feeling about gayness, is I have NO problem with it, until they try to take over the world. this goes for all "groups", people, organizations, agendas.

I have no issues with the first two paragraphs quoted by the OP. I accept the FACT that scientists have been unable to corelate homosexuality with genetic traits. However, for Mr. Boys to make the errant leap from 'sexuality is not genetically hard wired' to 'homosexuals are NOT born that way' is far too much of a stretch to be taken as fact.

I went on to read the next paragraph of Boys' article, stopping immediately after seeing the words "leftist propaganda" and "pathetic (homosexual) lifestyle". If I may make a similar leap of judgement, I'd say this article is motivated by right wing views and pathetic religious lifestyle choices.

I do not claim to have been "born this way" as I have no recollection of homosexual desires for the doctor who helped me out of my mothers womb. What you must understand, however, is that these feelings didn't fester due to some prepubescent homosexual escapades; they simply existed for me from a very young age (as early as 4)

Many have stated that they have no issues with homosexuals until they see it flaunted in some way, such as a gay couple making out in public. To you I say JUST LOOK AWAY. Seriously, I see straight couples giving public displays of affection nearly EVERY DAY. If I find it unpleasant to look at, I don't look. Same policy applies for breast feeding mothers and people with disfiguring injuries. Should fat people be persecuted and not allowed to walk in public just because someone thinks they're unpleasant to the eye?

I could go on for hours but it would be a waste of energy, especially since I try to keep a level head and civil tongue when dealing with these issues. I shall finish by saying I am truly DISGUSTED by many of the replies in this thread.

I find it interesting how Christians are demonizing the homosexual. Stating that homosexuality is learned or taught behavior, and that they were not born that way.

When Christians are indeed learned and taught to be Christian as its impossible for them to have a religious view from birth.

So people who have been indoctrinated into a religion can't accept the concept of being born homosexual when many or most believe we are born in sin.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your point. Your article says that in some African nations one in three adults have the disease. That makes any comparison between North America and Africa impossible. Are you saying that the disease itself is different? Or perhaps that women can get HIV, too? I just don't understand. Would you please try it again for me?
