Are people ignoring the facts about Homosexuality?

I am lazy as well as easily confused. I was hoping that there would be a discussion of facts so I could learn something. But, since that doesn't seem to be happening, I had to do some looking for myself. (I know it's good for you, but as I said, I'm lazy.)

I figured the easiest fact to get would be how many gays there are in the US. I've seen numbers on this thread running all over. Certainly the Feds would know so I went to the Census for 2000 and 2010.

There wasn't much help there, but some. The 2000 census indicated there were roughly 105 Million households in the US, of those 60 million were "coupled" households. (I assume that means two adults) Of the 60 million, 600,000 had same sex partners. That's 1%

That looked a little low to me, so I was pleased to see that there had been an adjustment announced to the 2010 census in September of 2011. They announced that there were roughly 650,000 same-sex partner households. Considering that there must have been a population increase between 2000 and 2010, it looked like we were in the same general range.

I figured that was enough of that for a while so I turned (blush) to wikianswers. The only reason I mention it is because the answers cited five studies:

These studies include Bell-Weinberg, 1970 (~2 percent); Billy-Battelle, 1993 (1.1 percent); Cameron-Ross, 1975-78 (~3 percent); Catania-NABS, 1992 (2 percent); FRI, 1983 (5.4 percent); MacDonald, 1988 (2 percent); NCHS, 1988-91 (3.5 percent); Schmidt, 1987 (0.6 percent); and Trocki, 1988-89 (3 percent).

Finally, I saw an article that appeared in the Huffington Post in 2011 on the subject.

Gates' best estimate, derived from five studies that have asked subjects about their sexual orientation, is that the nation has about 4 million adults who identify as being gay or lesbian, representing 1.7 percent of the 18-and-over population.

Gates found, for example, that another 1.8 percent of the adult population, or a little more than 4 million Americans, identifies as bisexual, according to his research brief published Thursday by the Williams Institute.

So in my mind, it seems like a good working figure for the number of gays in America is roughly 3%. Anyone care to discuss?

"Boys is claiming" "hetros". Learn English before you seem even more unintelligent than you really are. Gay people are not trying to "take over the world". Maybe there is no scientific proof that homosexual people are born that way yet, but any biggot who makes an article like this should die. Smh.

Duh, that there are countries out there which still function in an inhumane way, and therefor you should be thankful for what you have and shut up.

Cuz, ya know, we live in a time in which we can point to atrocities across thw world and use them to justify biggoted words.

Interesting, so if people are not born that way maybe your sexuality is programmed while your a young through various multiple non-sexual experiences through out childhood, and them feelings of sexual attraction only from and make them self apparent whilst in puberty (Hmmm that is one possibility out of a million).

We can argue about sexuality wrong and right until the cows come home but in reality we are trying to understand what is the most complex and complicated object in the universe, the human brain, not only the brain itself but the grossly complicated structure which is how the brain is wired. Once we crack that we can fully have a debatable and equal argument.

Personally I don't think its any one #ing business what they do with their manAlang DingDong just as long as they don't set out to physically or mentally harm anyone then why should any one stick there socially intrusive nose into somebody personal way of loving other people.

I propose a system where if someone starts and anti homo/religious/atheist or for racists/bigoted threads then it should show up below there sig or on there sig picture to the left.

I'm fed up of clicking on threads that sound intelligent but the prime argument actually isn't and in reality it normally an answer that can never be found since there is no right or wrong answer, so people just start an argument for arguments sake which is pointless and waste of time, I mean what is the point of an argument for arguments sake?

Wishing someone death for an article is far beyond bigotry, quite the same really, a lack of moral dignity. You can't accept someone having a different view than you, yet you are the one who wants acceptance and you haven't got a clue.

Straight homophobes (if they exist) aren't very smart if they welcome and encourage more competition for females. If all gay men turned straight, they'd probably steal your girlfriends. With slightly more males amongst younger ages, gay men are a blessing.

Its 2012 people everyone should be equal. I swear people who focus on these types of issues like homosexuality can be cured, are either just all old fashioned and resistant to change or people with a IQ of 70 or below.

Question is if people can live side by side by idiots then why can't those people live side by side with homosexuals?

Yes, for those that wonder, I do voice my opinion out loud on occasion.
It doesn't have to have a sexual component, is just a recognition of attraction and acknowledgement of beauty.

People just need to relax and appreciate that beauty and love trump hatred every time.
Or simply adopt Robin Williams thinking if you can't let go totally of the fear.
