The following video gives an accurate account of the magnitude, depth and location of quakes to hit Japan in 2011. It's shocking to see the increase after the major 9.0 in March. Take a few minutes to watch this and see for yourself.

It is really crazy how that part of the fault that turns runs approx N-S from the bottom center of the frame nearly completely shuts down after the big quake, whereas it was quite active before hand.
