"Connecticut home invasion" Was the William Petit a coward?

Why didn't he even try to stop these men? Is the media wrong in painting him as a victim or hero? or just maybe is American society losing it's strong male role models. Todays men are forgetting they have to protect their females even if it means killing the attacker. People have false security in their homes thinking it can never happen to you and when it does most men today never take action. This isn't some random woman it's YOUR loved one. You are supposed to protect them to the death.

This man could have changed the outcome. Instead his wife and daughter are dead and he is engaged again.

I live 5 miles from where this occurred and when you think it can never happen in a small town like Cheshire Connecticut you are proved wrong.
I own 2 hand guns and have Mace at the front door and the back door and in my cars.
If this can happen there it can happen to us.
These were not urban thugs but "suburban thugs who could be living what seems to be normal lives.
As far as the protection of his family... if there was a gun in the house or mace the we would not be talking about this right now.

In the late afternoon of July 22, 2007, Jennifer Petit and her daughter Michaela went to a local grocery store in Cheshire. They picked up food for the evening meal which would be prepared by Michaela. They, along with Jennifer's other daughter Hayley, would be killed several hours later in a home invasion

The way the Judicial system seems to work today, if he had tried to do something and accomplished defending his family by killing the intruder or intruders, he would be in jail for murder, self defense or not.

One thing about this case is that it has not really been that long since the tragedy occurred and he is already engaged to another (younger) woman. That for me raises some red flags, but then again maybe it wasn't as traumatic for him as the media has made it out to be.

But, like I said. You're danged if you do and danged if you don't when it comes to a lot of home invasions. I know a woman who is in prison for shooting a robber who was trying to stab her...go figure.

You might want to post a link or at least a description to what your talking about next time. And if your talking about what ccsct203 linked to then it is a messed up story, as well as it being a few years ago, and in the wrong spectrum.

I would say focus, but if that is the story your talking about.

I have to say from the picture of him he looks at least from a physically perspective vs the two thief's/thugs who seem to be armed with weapons. That NO, I do not think he could have changed the outcome by much. And I do not know what the time line is of when the escaped to when his family was killed. But other then getting help, I do not think he could of done much more.

But still he could of at least tried and if he had the strength to recover from being hit with a bat in the head I take it, and eventually escaping, I am sure if his priorities and basic instinct were in something other then escaping that situation it could of went different.

But it's all a bunch of guesses and should of, could of...didn't. Such is the case in all these cases...Nothing but speculations.
