This is interesting. Kader Arif, the "rapporteur" for ACTA, has quit that role in disgust over the process behind getting the EU to sign onto ACTA. A rapporteur is a person "appointed by a deliberative body to investigate an issue." However, it appears his investigation of ACTA didn't make him very pleased:
I want to denounce in the strongest possible manner the entire process that led to the signature of this agreement: no inclusion of civil society organisations, a lack of transparency from the start of the negotiations, repeated postponing of the signature of the text without an explanation being ever given, exclusion of the EU Parliament's demands that were expressed on several occasions in our assembly.

now i cant confirm the varisity of the story but would love others opinion on if this story if true is anti democractic.

this is not about piracy weather right or wrong,
this thread is about a law pushed through with out public submitions that will restrict the net.

if the man in charge of the ACTA legislation for the EU says this is an afont to true democracy and is proven to be true then
acta is anti democractic legislation passed without public or industry imput for the benifit a very small minority of people.

this is not democracy this is a joke,



so if the guy who was in charge of passage of this bill, descibes the process as anti democractic and resigns because it was worked out in secracy without any public imput.

this ACTA was written in seceret and passed without any peep out of the mainstream media.

you see the ACTA was supposed to pass but so was SOPA,
and the internet has loudly and clearly shouted down SOPA

but obama singned ACTA without a peep from anyone and without congressonal aproval
how far will the copyright barrons go to destroy democracy in their bid to pass their internet destroying ajenda.

I am not aware of any requirement for the EU to act democratically. When it comes to the reality of implementing legislation it does help to have the support of the people. It is great to see someone take a stand when there is a clear lack of consideration into what is being proposed.

Copyright and the digital economy are big issues these days. With not as much need for labour on the farms, factories closing down or getting automated, something needs to be done to keep the cash flowing and food on the table as unemployment continues to rise.

The ongoing production line of government legalisation is a big concern as inconsistencies and loop holes leave a lot of people shaking their heads at times. Considering just how important these guidelines are to social order and generational culture, more resources, debate and examination of just what direction things are to go is a good thing.

Hopefully the EU takes this opportunity to expand its legislation compilation process, but would not hold my breath over it.

First came SOPA and PIPA and there was protest, then they revamped it after it did not work and devised ACTA. Kill this one to the ground and burn all the people involved with this!! The internet is our last bastion of semi-freedom left and these bastards are trying to take it away. They will get my keyboard from my cold dead hands if need be.

The EU parliament hadn't time to discuss it, it was completely rushed, although the parliament raised concerns about it. But concerns were just ignored. The now resigned official expressed that this contract will have massive implications on the citizen of Europe, while the EU commission claims that ACTA has no influence on the EU legislation.

Could it be that ACTA along with SOPA etc has nothing whatsoever to do with piracy and intellectual property rights, and that it is just a front for their true intentions. Those intentions being that they are trying to stop the spread of information when they carry out their plans.
For instance, if tens, hundreds or even thousands of people began to 'disappear', with sites such as this and other chat forums shut down, who would know it was happening ?
If the information could not spread, there would be no-one to stop them because no-one would know.

This is what members of Poland's government did when they went to vote on the same legislation.

That might be the reason, but I suspect this is about planting the seeds for a future fascist revolution. Fascism at it's core is about political vengeance.

It is like the whole "Rules for Radical's" progressives and the left seems to be obsessive about. If taken to fruition; the complete economic and social collapse of America, who really benefits?

The Communist's? Hell no. Communist states can only be formed via deceit(ballot stuffing then quick closing the doors, but still requires a large amount of popular support), pure strength(as in a military communist coup), or a long period of stupendous social wealth.

By destroying art, literature, people moral's, hopes and dreams, they are already doing all the hard work for the fascist's(no need for book burnings etc). So when the fascist sweep into power they will bring with them stunning displays of art, literature. And the fascist's will raise peoples hopes and dreams to the sky.

And in the end they will be loved for vanquishing the evil "progressives..etc".

Add in my growing suspicions that feminism is nothing more then a kind of meme cryostasis for "white supremacy", and given how much messed up stuff Obama is doing in one fell swoop. It leaves the door open for many different, and deeply disturbing possibilities.
