So they cut oil exports to Europe.

Sucks to be them, but Iran is the one that will be hurt the most due to sanctions.

Anyone wonder where Iran gets their food from? I don't remember seeing too many vast fields of grain and wheat growing. Groves of fruit trees. Herds of cattle and sheep (almost said pigs!).

They can't eat oil, and I'm certain they can't produce enough food on their own for their citizens. Unless they decide to go the ol' Soylent Green route.

Yes I wonder. Would you please explain these things to me?

Source

Benefiting from 123,580 square kilometers of land suitable for agriculture, the agricultural sector is one of the major contributors to Iran's economy. It accounts for almost 13% of Iran's GDP, 20% of the employed population, 23% of non-oil exports, 82% of domestically consumed foodstuffs and 90% of raw materials used in the food processing industry.

Though the country provides about 90% of the total agri-food products, still Iran is a large importer of agricultural products, in addition to the technology and equipment required for this sector. The main products imported, related to this sector activity, include refined sugar, rice, soybean, sunflower oil, corn, palm oil, barley, processed food, fish, animal feed, additives, fertilizers and fertilizer raw materials and agricultural equipment.

I was thinking about posting this.

can you imagine what people think about another country based on WHAT?

news reports and sponsored "documentary movies"...

Desert?

Iran

"it's area roughly equals that of the United Kingdom, France, Spain, and Germany combined"

"It is one of the world's most mountainous countries"

"The northern part of Iran is covered by dense rain forests called Shomal or the Jungles of Iran.

The eastern part consists mostly of desert basins such as the Dasht-e Kavir, Iran's largest desert, in the north-central portion of the country, and the Dasht-e Lut, in the east, as well as some salt lakes."

"The only large plains are found along the coast of the Caspian Sea and at the northern end of the Persian Gulf"

"Smaller, discontinuous plains are found along the remaining coast of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman."

OK, now when we know something about geography, did you know what Iran exports (except oil)?

Carry on believing that bombing Iran is some easy mission. Even Brzezinski says it is a really bad idea, and even says that American forces should intercept Israeli forces if they should ever decide to strike first.

I'm sure you've all read about the 'strange sky noises' we'll, its been debunked.

Its actually the sound of the war drums of wwiii, earth groaning of the pending doom from foolish mankind.

I've seen countless news stories threatening military action if oil shipments are stopped, we'll see What it will bring.

As sk8girl said, petrol is already an all time high here, as they say, 'the only way is up'.

Yes, he does. But why would Israel have to fly over US airspace to get to Iran? The last time I checked, Israel can fly over Jordanian and Iraqi airspace to get to Iran. Exactly which of part of that airspace is owned by the US?

Did you not watch the video provided? He was talking about American fighters over Iraq "confronting" Israeli bombers.

I know that. But since both Jordan and Iraq are sovereign states and the US officially no longer occupies Iraq, no one can blame the US for "permitting" Israel to use its airspace. Since Jordan and Iraq can do jack about the violations, there should be no problem for Israel for running the bombing raids and US can always pretend it had no control over the matter. That US can exercise control in the matter if it so chooses is different from others blaming US for "permitting" Israel, which is what Brzezinski claims will happen. In order for the others to blame the US, they should first claim the territory is not sovereign and US is occupying it, which they cannot because they deal with the national governments directly for various trade related activities.

Yeah, sure the US can prevent an Israel air raid, but can also allow it to happen without any government being able to officially blame the US for it. It is their choice. Either way it has no direct implications for the US.

In fact that is why the US loves its own method of propping up puppet regimes, while retaining control, rather than the crude methods of the past empires of direct imperial control. In the US method, the imperial power has the power, but not the responsibility, while the past empires had both power and responsibility.

Of course, I did. How else would I know what he said, when you didn't quote that part

Mine was a lighthearted comment directed at Brzezinski's claim that the US will get blamed for allowing Israel to use the Iraqi airspace. Technically US cannot be blamed for it, since they officially no longer occupy Iraq with the withdrawal of troops last December. It wouldn't be surprising if the withdrawal was intended to tempt Israel into launching the air or missile raids against Iran.

If they do, I am betting, the US will dump Israel. My analysis is that the US/West is looking for an opportunity to dump Israel and are tempting Israel with all these moves. But Israel is clever enough to see through their game and won't oblige them

I for one think it's great that Iran is biting back and fighting fire with fire... I just hope they're not cutting off their own nose to spite their face.

This sanction rubbish that's become so popular these past couple of decades has become an all-too-common act of war guised under the umbrella of "diplomacy".

Do not be fooled by word play games folks...

You really believe that?

Because we've actually gone over that at my school. We first looked at the mainstream media's version of how horrible these countries' situations were and how they desperately needed to be bailed out... and then we looked at the more exclusive reports without all of the rhetoric. Turns out that the situations were not nearly as bad as described. Turns out that the whole point of the propaganda campaign was to force the state to cut its own assets in these countries, so other EU countries could buy these assets up.

Why do you think the Greeks were rioting non-stop against austerity? You think they were begging for help from other countries?

Hmmmm.....you do know that Greece "cooked the books" so that they could enter the EU and have access to the Euro?

The big deal is that Germany still remembers the inflationary period of the 1920s and really don't have too much of a desire to revisit that. They have a very firm set of rules and regulations when it comes to the Euro, and Greece going belly up sort of screwed things for them and everyone else.

Actually, Iraqi airspace is owned by Iraq. The US doesn't have anything to do with it and has to ask for permission for flights into and out of Iraq.

Don't know if you've noticed it or not, but the US still has mercinary forces deployed at its installations around Iraq. Just because American military forces are officially gone, doesn't mean that they can't be deployed there on a dime. The US didn't spend the last 8 years in Iraq just to up and leave it to total Iraqi control.

You are correct, but only technically so.

In reality US owns Iraq and everything Iraq technically owns, including the airspace. If the Iraqi government starts believing they are a sovereign nation, there will be another round of "liberation", if necessary, to remind them who is the real owner of Iraq. But it won't be necessary, not by a long shot.
