Swine Flu H1N1 - It's back 110 Confirmed Cases Mexico! 333 Cases Nation Wide!!

This sounds pretty scary - but I wonder will it be like the last one when they warned of a Global outbreak of the Swine Flu? Or is this scare tactics to get everyone to rush for the vaccine?

I must admit - reading the article - I didn't realize there were so many deaths at the last outbreak.

Same here. That 17k number surprised me quite a bit. I'm wondering if people will even pay attention to it this time. I wonder if it will turn into something nastier this time.

Also, to have it show up in two different places on different continents at the same time is as funky as a 3 dollar bill.

Surely they must have kept those number quiet last time - I was under the impression that globally there were only about one hundred cases but can't remember properly???

Yes jumping continents is a frightening scenario!!!

I don't think its scary swine flu is or at least was the predominate strain of flu if you get flu you probably have swine flu.

SWINE flu is the predominant strain of flu this year.

It is normal for the strain that caused a pandemic to become the predominant strain during the next winter flu season.

Swine flu caused a flu pandemic in 2009-2010.

It has now been included in the 2010-11 seasonal flu vaccine.

People with swine flu typically have a fever or high temperature of more than 38C and may also have aching muscles, sore throat or a dry cough.

As it is now classed as part of seasonal flu, the symptoms are very similar.

I remember all the scare about it but it didn't materialize hence, there wasn't a Pandemic after all.

Yet they're talking in the article about the Pandemic so - I'm not sure what to think??

Well, i remember here in Australia, they were trying to freak out the public with mass scare campaigns and stuff saying that it would return in 2011 with significat deaths, no such Flu materialised last year.

Nice work, but you miss the point. The numbers always shift, but the first numbers reported usually have occult significance like 333.

Erm. H5N1 bird flu is endemic in Indonesia, Egypt, Vietnam and Cambodia - and it's co-infecting hosts with H1N1 swine flu. Egypt and Indonesia are launching major efforts to stop H5N1 - India's getting onboard too. But the World Health Organization says, "Problem, what problem? There's no problem."

INDONESIA: Bird flu deaths raise red flags

...WHO said so far, transmission of H5N1 viruses from animals to humans had only resulted in sporadic human cases or small clusters among close contacts, with no evidence of community-level spread.

"These sporadic human cases and small clusters of human infection with variant influenza viruses are expected and are not considered unusual, and do not change WHO's current assessment of pandemic risk," WHO said in a statement released in December.
