Special Forces Get Social in New Psychological Operation Plan (Or SOCOM is going all ATS on us…LOL

The elite forces of the U.S. military think they’ve found a new way to sway opinion in the Pentagon’s preferred directions: a voice-based social networking app that’s a cross between talk radio and Twitter.

The American intelligence and defense communities have become enthralled by the possibilities of social media. They’re looking to use the networks to forecast political unrest, spread friendly messages, spot emerging terror groups — and even predict the next natural disaster. But these efforts have generally tried to leverage existing, and already popular, civilian social networks.

Looks like they are taking a lesson from the folks of ATS here. But they will be amazed at what they get in return I think. I am wondering if I can lurk about the forums they set up…just for the laughs, if anything else.

I know they've tried something similiar before, but it looks like this will be the first time they are looking for real time feedback.

Surely nobody TRULY lives by the old illusion.. I do have ties to the PSYOP community, so when I know...so shall you. It should be amusing to watch.

All to often these things are created to justify some officers billet, who knows nothing about social media, nor will they listen to those who do. I may be wrong in this case, but I doubt it. I have many years of experiance with the "Good Idea Fairy".

All together this is not a bad idea...how they implement it though is another story.

Or as the saying goes "It briefed well". This should be interesting. I'll keep tabs on it also.
