Belgium TV, VRT, has been broadcasting images of an awakening Mt. Etna. What first started a few days ago as cracks showing and smokeplumes rising has now turned into the volcano being fully active again, the bowl has filled up with red hot lava.

Although lava is errupting from the volcano rather slowly, its still a dangerous situation, where loss of life and damages can be expected to be high.

Lets hope this situation doesn't escalate and most citizens of the island can get out in time to avoid ultimate disaster.

The last heavy erruption of Etna was only 3 years ago on 18/7/2001.

Etna seems to becomming more and more active over the last few years.

The 2001 erruptions were the final result of smaller erruptions going back as early as 1997.

Before that, in the late 70's, some erruptions were so violent that they reshaped the look and construct of the entire volcano.

Everything points to this currently slow flow of lava from several spots on the volcano, will lead to another big erruption.

Check out the cam. Even in the dark you can see the lava flowing down the face of the volcano.

Thanks for the vid link. Simply incredible.

So Etna is acting up and Mt. Helens is as well. Busy month for geologists and their associated ilk it seems.
