Israel and the United States are "supporters of state terrorism" and will suffer a "punitive response" at an "opportune time," Iran's Press TV cited a top Iranian general as saying Sunday, days after an Iranian nuclear scientist was killed.

Iran will hold "the U.S., Britain and the Zionist regime accountable for their actions," said the deputy chairman of Iran's Joint Chiefs of Staff, Brig. Gen. Massoud Jazayeri.

Jazayeri said the assassination would not hinder Iran's progress towards strategic technologies, the government-run Press TV reported Sunday, following an interview with him on Saturday.

Nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan was killed Wednesday by what Iran described as a magnetic bomb attached to his car.

He was the third Iranian nuclear scientist to be killed in the past two years. A fourth survived a similar assassination attempt.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton "categorically" denied any role in the attacks, but urged Iran to halt its quest for a nuclear bomb.

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta Thursday told troops in Texas: "We were not involved in any way -- in any way -- with regards to the assassination that took place there.... that's not what the United States does."

Iran certainly seems to be taking THIS specific assassination awfully hard. Either this guy was more important than the last 6-8 Nuke eggheads to die or disappear...or it's just reaching a breaking point for being on the receiving side of covert warfare in their own cities. After the hell they've dished out through their proxies to other regional locations over 3 decades, I imagine turn about isn't what they're calling fair play.

In all seriousness though, lets not make Iran sound like a truly peaceful regime looking for days that John Lennon would call perfect. I'd say they've gotten more than a few licks in by road side weapons and penetrator type shaped charges they've supplied as party favors to Iraq if NOTHING else. Only time will tell how this all plays out....but I'd be just as happy if the game weren't played further at all, myself.

Yes i know .. Iran is strong and they needed to be weakened before any attack
and elevate the chances of winning the war

That is true to a point, but then Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait and Saudi live there too and they are inviting us in with major combat commands like the 5th Fleet HQ in Bahrain or various regional command centers up and down the West shore of the Gulf.

Apparently they (The rest of the Neighborhood in the Gulf) believe the only thing worse than being caught in the middle of the United States and Iran finally having their fight is facing a regional super-power in Iran, alone.

Now the fight between Israel and it's immediate neighbors on all sides has been in the making since the 40's...but this fight with Iran has been in the making since the Embassy was breached in 1979. It's been coming and BOTH sides have known it, for 30 years now.

I think that perspective is important to recall in how this is far more complex and shady for who is right or wrong than the opportunistic way Libya was stomped, almost as an afterthought.

None of that makes either side right in my view..and either side can turn this off before the shooting and dying starts. It just seems neither side as even the slightest interest.

Anyone here old enough to remember how WW II got started for the US? Anyone? What we are seeing here is a modern day version of that playing out minus the existing conflict atm.

The US put so many sanctions on Japan, they had no alternative but to attack as economically their way of life (even so they were slaughtering Chinese at the time) was floundering due to what amounted to present day sanctions in termanology.

Now, the US was soely responsible for Hitlers rise to begin with after the US stoped doing business with Germany after WW I. At that time it was also the equivelant of sanctions as Germany's economy was tanking due to the business fall out and being black balled by major banks and investment.

My point? Same set up, scarier times to do it in. Its all about money folks plain and simple. You make Irans money worthless...and all your doing is giving Iran the excuse they need to retaliate in any form necessary.

History repeats does it not? The US was also responsible for Saddam, Osama, the current Iranian gov, Veitnam (by French Proxy), you name it.
