So I was working at a customer's house when he offered me a pop. I said only if it's not diet, because I don't trust aspertame. He then went on to tell me I was right not to trust it.

He told me his father worked for the government testing potentially dangerous things like aspertame and other chemicals sold to consumer. He said that of all the things his father tested, Aspertame was the only thing that his father refused to let his family consume because of how dangerous it was. He then told me that Coca-Cola bribed the Canadian government not to release their findings on aspertame.

I realize it's just hearsay, but I thought I'd pass it along anyways.

In either case, it's an aspartame cover-up, and not a fluoride cover-up, right? Just somewhat confusing considering your thread title.

That said, I think the dangers of aspartame are widely known to the general public. And it's intended for people with diabetes.

Opps, had a brain fart there. Edited the title.

With all respect, I think you are wrong. The number of people who drink diet coke around my workplace pretty much have no idea.

I think people are so used to hearing that This or That is "bad" for us that they've tuned out. Remember when eggs were going to kill us all? Sadly, I'll bet if you did a survey MORE people would think EGGS were bad than diet coke.

I found out about Aspartame only a few weeks back.

There was a thread on here about it getting a new name called Amino Sweet I think.
I would put up a link but i'm on my phone at the minute.

I googled Aspartame and was shocked at what I read but not surprised to be honest...

I'd been drinking the stuff unaware for years!

I've cut it completely out of anything my son drinks.

The trouble is, i'm addicted to Diet Pepsi and I don't mind admitting it. I've cut it right down since learning about the dangers of Aspartame and slowly but surely i'm getting off it.

Buyers please beware. Check the label and if you can't see Aspartame then look for Amino Sweet.

OP: S&F.
This topic needs to be brought up more often IMO. Just so we can get more people aware.

I have known of the ill intent and the horrible side effects of aspartame for a very long time. I recommend watching the documentary in the link. It says it all, a very thorough look at who pushed aspartame onto the world, and who profits from it. topdocumentaryfilms.com...

Yea i wouldn't be surprised .

Health Canada gets bought easily. But covered up just as easily .

Remember the health canada and shiv chopra in canada. Man was fired with his buddies for protecting canadians lol

I heard him on a interview talking about how much more dangerous whistleblowing is , and how they are dealt with much quicker.

I try to stay away from that stuff. I'll tell ya, I'd rather have diabetes AND high blood pressure than a brain tumour that's for sure.

What I really meant was that the health effects of aspartame are not being hidden or suppressed, nor is it secret knowledge. Back home, aspartame has been covered in national newspapers with warnings of its dangers. There are also strict regulations that makes manufacturers label products with its contents, albeit I'm sure there are certain loop holes where in some instances they can avoid labeling it as aspartame (E951).

People are still somewhat responsible of controlling what they consume, and if they decide to ignore warnings of chemical food additives such as aspartame, they do it at their own peril.

You're right...it IS all out there for everyone who cares to look for it.

Out of curiosity...when you say "back home", to where are you referring? [EDIT: I'm guessing Scandinavia, since that is what you have listed.] Because I think in the US the dangers of aspartame have NOT been covered by the mainstream media.

Around here, if I started talking about aspartame being bad, I could either get someone who agrees with me, OR I'm just as likely to get someone who thinks I am a nut for thinking that.

This topic drives me nuts. My brother and sister inlaw drink this stuff like its water AND make my niece and nephew drink it too. I have been harping on them for years and bringing over printed evidence of the dangers of this junk and they just dismiss it. Apparently my sister inlaw's sister is a nurse and has told them there is no danger from aspertame despite knowing nothing more about it than the common joe. Her attitude is she is a nurse and if it was dangerous she would know.

Despite printed evidence of the dangers from people more educated and knowledgeable than any nurse they just wont believe me. This nurse also vaccinated my niece and nephew for the swine flu that made all of 5 peoples noses run like the common cold in my province. What a joke.

Maybe it's due to the conflicting views and studies of different researchers and laboratories. One says aspartame causes cancer, and the other points out errors or fallacies in the study, claiming the findings are worthless. Either way, due to the lack of consensus, I would try to avoid it altogether. Anyway, it's still newsworthy in my opinion.

Yeah, that's why it's not worth bringing it up. More often than not you'll probably get a contentious and opinionated reply from someone that believes everything the authorities tell him. As per today, they say it's safe despite of what I wrote above. I think the authorities should be a bit more critical and more thorough before they proclaim something to be safe, especially when it comes to our health and general well being.

When there are ambiguous and inconclusive studies regarding a food additive, but still deemed to be safe by the government, I would personally be a bit hesitant and skeptical of it.
