What I really meant was that the health effects of aspartame are not being hidden or suppressed, nor is it secret knowledge. Back home, aspartame has been covered in national newspapers with warnings of its dangers. There are also strict regulations that makes manufacturers label products with its contents, albeit I'm sure there are certain loop holes where in some instances they can avoid labeling it as aspartame (E951).
People are still somewhat responsible of controlling what they consume, and if they decide to ignore warnings of chemical food additives such as aspartame, they do it at their own peril.
Around here, if I started talking about aspartame being bad, I could either get someone who agrees with me, OR I'm just as likely to get someone who thinks I am a nut for thinking that.
