Curious about ATS as a whole

I didn't read anywhere on ATS about the point of having a discussion on various topics was to "shoot down" another user. I thought the points of ATS was to rationally discuss and debate various issues and try to present as much information to each other in the hopes of educating yourself and others on various topics.

I think some of the users on ATS lack the maturity required to carry on rational discussions on just about any topic. Some of the users here post such immature drivel that it seems to be for the sole purpose of attacking another user to make themselves feel bigger? (I really don't see any other reason for posts like that). I don't think ATS is the appropriate place to make up for ones insecurities, whatever they may be.

I hope ATS isn't always like this; with certain users unable or unwilling to read and comment on different users opinions - without having to resort to childish antics and rediculous mockery in place of fact backed information and/or rational observations.

That's my two cents anyway.

Not everyone is like that, but as with any online community there will always be the bad apples and the trolls who just like to flame and ridicule.Then you have the Google "experts" that will do anything it takes to shoot down someone argument no matter what the cost leaving no room for intelligent disscusion. We just have to live with it. As a whole ATS is a goldmine of views and opinions that we can use to further our understanding of almost any topic under the Sun. for the most part ATS is full of Intelligent well informed posters, but you will always find the odd troll.

No one likes being flammed... but it happens on large discussion boards, expecially multiple topic and debate boards. As stated... there's someone who always cries, pouts and complains when he's told he's wrong... then there the's other guy who thinks he's a hot shot. Luckily... we have more contributors than bashers.

Though everyone is a basher in some way or form.

Do you have an example? Our staff is large, and our tools for management are diverse... however, ATS is among the most active online communities, things will get missed.

When I joined ATS 12 months ago I always left the board totally amazed at the diffferent subjects discussed. I loved learning about HAARP, secret govt facilities etc. However now I usually leave the board angry.

There are so many really great posters who obviously know what they are taking about. I try not to make a post on a subject I have no knowledge about but I get really peeved when a good thread is spoiled by all the bull#. Not everyone bothers to research their subject before mouthing off.

There is probably no way to stop the bashers, just try starting a thread on aliens/UFO's and you will be bashed straight off.

Yes...here is an example using my own thread! Skepticism is a good thing....but this is not skepticism and because of it, I will never post another picture here after I post some day pictures later tonight to show the end of my dead end street!

Sorry jubilee, this one was my fault as this person was turning an AADD thread into a parent bashing episode, so I suggested he start his own thread instead of distracting from that one if that's where he wanted to go.

At least this is better than watching an off topic debate in a thread you want to read and then you can choose not to read the one that deserves no consideration. My opinion anyway.

That sounds exactly like what the original poster is questioning here...I replied to that thread, and though he could certainly of used better wording as it would of made his post more plausible.....I don't see how it implicates him in frequenting porn sites
