Residents in Derry who were forced to flee their homes on Tuesday after reports of a loud explosion were able to return on Wednesday afternoon.
Mystery still surrounds the origin of the blast, which could be heard six miles away at the city's airport.

but surely they don't have the kind of power needed to cause actual shockwaves across a whole city?

I always love these "Mystery Explosions" and just have to ask...How the hell do you have an explosion so big and loud that people need to be evacuated and yet...it's all a mystery?
My conspiracy sense gets tingling when I hear these things and I always think that maybe someone wants people out of a certain area so as to do what needs to be done without witnesses.
Distraction? Maybe...Maybe not.
Peace

Weird story. I'm wondering if there's any chance that it was a fast moving aircraft. The sonic boom of a plane flying above the speed of sound is notoriously loud.

This is very strange, especially the fact that it was heard so far and wide.
The quote by the police officer saying "What we also have is reports of masked men who made off from Dunfield Terrace" makes me think it could be some offshoot IRA movement testing explosive, but surely they don't have the kind of power needed to cause actual shockwaves across a whole city?
It all seems quite odd, especially when the "strange rumbling sound" is back.
