Government website checks your PC !

Found this on the internet. It is a german government website that checks if your PC is infected.
What do you think about it ?

Specifically it checks for this:

www.f-secure.com...


And I don't see any problem with it, it's a simple and easy to use resource for those who might not know how to identify and remove malware.

There are lots of sites that check you PC.
Whats so special about this one?

i was wondering, how it works. does it check my harddisk ?

Ya it checks your hard drive.
There are also hoax sites that try to force you to by their antimalware software.

really ? it had the result instantly, there was no time to check the whole harddisk....

It checks your DNS and some other basic information that ANY and EVERY site you visit has access to. It's not looking for your porn or pirated software. Rest easy.

It is basically looking at your reported DNS as this DNSChanger trojan will change your DNS to a few known values. If you want to see what this site is checking, open a command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" - this is what the site checks. It's not scanning your hard drive.

A web based anti-malware program would have to have a component installed on your computer which you would first have to allow. Once installed it would (depending on your disk size) take upwards of an hour or more to do a full scan. If the site said you had a virus/malware almost immediately then I would strongly advise you no longer visit that website.

Incorrect in this case. Please see the post directly on top of yours. This site is simply verifying that your DNS information is unaltered by a trojan. It is using information that ANY and EVERY website you visit has access to.

Jeesh, this thread is a good example of how a lack of understanding can cause PANIC.

Also I don't think this site is owned by the government. There is an obvious Deutsch Telekom logo on the page and the WHOIS information does not reflect this is a government owned site.

I don't know as if I'd trust it I mean it is from a foreign government entity. I don't want a virus or worm destroying the computer. So I think you were trying to be informative but sorry I'll take a pass on something from a foreign government.
