(Mods, I hope this is the right forum...it seemed the best due to the subject threads also being here)

I've been reading a thread going on here today and have been closely following these noises in the sky since mid September in a serious and determined way. The long duration of the one being experienced in Louisiana is what got my mind to wandering about ways that duration could be leveraged to our advantage, as people trying to figure out what is causing this......when something hit me and I really have to share this.

A recent thread right here at ATS showed someone sending an Iphone up to 100,000 feet in altitude by using a balloon to get the HD video of a trip to the edge of space...and THAT CAN BE USED HERE!

If people have the resources and interest to help answer this (I don't have the finances, but others may for their own effort), consider a similar little set up as that Iphone FOR AUDIO. It will tell us with SOME degree of certainty, just where in altitude this sound is coming from or if it is actually a ground based phenomenon entirely.

I've personally come to believe that these are ships/craft, at least in some cases, and using very advanced versions of the BAE Infra-red type cloaking system mated with something similar to the Nano-tech visual cloaking technology which was also recently demonstrated to the public by a company in a very primitive, prototype form with a sheet of it.

It would be absolutely priceless if something as simple as a smart phone could go up with the relative silence of a balloon, but even better if someone could put a few dollars into it to slap together microphones of higher quality.

If this really is coming from the Earth, I'd guess that would be obvious with just one experiment. If it the noise gets LOUDER as it rises in altitude, then we know it's from Space or these are actually craft in the air above as the most likely explanations.

Here is hoping someone might have the technical skill and money to do something where I can't, but it would answer so much and it could be done on a generous household hobby fund.

(If someone really had some money and time, a sophisticated little package could probably be made with more, to learn more and still be within the realm of viable on a household budget....)

[A quick note of warning/disclaimer... Call the local airport before doing something with a balloon like this and ask their opinion of it....just for safety sake. I don't imagine the details need to be shared for why, but the mechanics of a balloon going to higher altitude is worth asking about restrictions or problems on....

I am going to post this in every thread I can find on the strange noise.
It has been going on for sometime, many years.

Sky quakes and the list of reports.

I posted in another lengthy thread on this - page 10
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Not sure I can do what you propose but I wanted to try and collate date/times and map each incident. Like you I would love to get to the bottom of this, but what I find is that there are so many threads popping up it's been hard to keep track of each event...

Hoping someone can help you with your aim - feel free to add to the other thread if you can.

Cheers

That's a great link - and at first glance it's not a new phenomen. I linked to another thread in an above post not sure if you could add to that if not done already?

Will read through that site in detail...hoping it contains an explanation of some sort and not just a list of incidents.

Cheers

I hope it can be done on a long duration one like that one in the South and really get some things answered.

Great idea. but you're not getting my iPhone

Not trying to be a buzz kill, but wouldn't the wind make the microphone ineffective? There is most likely a way around the wind issue but I'm just not aware of it.

It would really be something if our balloon hit one of these ships.

(pop!)

You make a good point. Recording engineers will cover microphones with foam wind screens. Something 1/2" thick should do the job.
I really hope someone can put this together.
Piezo microphones can be used to make sound recordings from the ground. A few of those set a couple miles apart might be interesting as well.

yea the wind is a problem, even skydivers have to yell into their mics and you can still barely hear them. if you put on of those fuzzy foam things on it, the wind sheer would probally just rip it off hehe.

I wonder if the sound would cause vibrations. There are probably inexpensive sensors that could detect sound vibrations. All those videos I have seen of this noise seem to have some "bass" to them so I'm guessing it could be measured.

The wind is certainly a problem but it wouldn't be like a skydiver. They have to scream at each other because they are falling at triple digit speeds and hitting the wind at that free fall. A balloon would be rising at a slow and steady, almost sedate pace and only be dealing with whatever the literal winds are as the climb gets higher...

The smart phones are even built to handle a myriad of apps these days to locate them within 3 meters, even from a remote computer. So finding it afterwards is actually the easiest part of the whole thing if the padding did it's job.

i think the problem with this is the sound isn't constant. it stops and starts. how would you know when to launch the phone? who knows if the sound would stop before the phone got high enough?

but why a balloon?

why not build your own drone? diydrones.com...

I already posted the same teory about the cloaking in one of those said threads this morning. You have a great ideal about the cell phone, lets all get to the bottom of this. S&F for ya

I have a much much better Idea.

I am a passionate RC Jet Flyer for now 4 Years and our Technology has a breakthrough in the so called FPV(First Person View) Technology.

Basically all it is would be a transmitter, receiver, battery, special glasses with inbuild monitors and onboard Camera plus Telemetry Equipment.

The Advantage of such a System is that you can fly up to 3km in a Radius and depending on your System you can record everything.

Advanced googles give you everything you need on the monitors such as height, distance from you, direction, how much juice is left in your batteries, audio recording and you can even move the Camera up/down/left/right while you are flying.

You won't get lost really cause it shows the distance and direction from where you are standing. So you can easily find back.

However in such cloudy conditions you need a strong signal.
My mate build a unique omni directional satellite on the ground base next to him and on the aircraft for maximum signal strength and video quality.

You can hear everything while you are in the air and with telemetry you can record it and then connect it to your computer to get all the necessary Data.

In America however to fly Remote Controlled Airplanes you need to be in the AMA Club, in our Country we can fly anywhere at anytime we want.

Plus those planes are not that large and are very quiet as well.

You can fly up to 1 hour with a good sized Battery and enjoy the view.

Unfortunately we don't get anything here in Switzerland with those noises or rumbling sound, otherwise I would have had my FPV Plane Setup build a long time ago.

Why loose money on an Iphone/Android/Smartphone when you invest into something for every time and always coming back?

Of course you also need to know how to fly a such remote controlled glider.

But I tell you...don't you wanna know what really is up there beyond those clouds??? you get LIVE Footage!!!

What if a such RC Plane may hit on a hidden "thing" up there??? Since it gets all recorded and is very small to be recognized on Radar it will go there unnoticed

I may just get myself such a thing in case we ever get anything like that! and I will be ready for it!

It will cost you not an arm or a leg but it will be around the same price like for an iphone and you get a whole telemetry video/audio recording live setup.

What say you?

RC are certainly an idea and if someone already has one and the skill to use it effectively, that is an outstanding idea!

The reason why I mentioned a Balloon is simple. First, there had just been a thread on a variation of this for that stunning footage from the edge of space...and obviously the phone came back down and was recovered without serious damage or we wouldn't have that to see. It's what made the mental connection for me in the first place.
So I figure we have a working model to look at and replicate.

Second, and more importantly is that few of us have the money or time to get an RC craft and learn to fly it well enough to actually use it for a serious effort on something. The balloon seems like something simple a Father/Son could put together over a weekend on a couple hundred bucks (sans the phone or other GPS tracker, if a phone isn't the microphone/recording base).

By the way, in support of this idea, you don't need an Iphone or Droid that is actually on a service plan as I understand the way these work. At least my old blackberries and my current HTC work for their internal functions (camera...audio) with or without phone service or a plan at all. Phones with enough cosmetic damage or issues to never use as a phone....but still perfectly functional for internal things on a project like THIS, aren't that hard or expensive to pick up off Craigslist or Ebay. Just a thought for how it can all be a budget minded thing from start to finish.

Additionally...if a "dead phone" is used, the much cheaper GPS Keychain trackers available from keeping track of a child and such are FAR more resilient and likely to survive mishap for being used again and again. They're a fraction of the cost of a phone plan too. Oh well... This is just an idea I've put a bit of time into exploring.

Good Question..and that is where it HAS to be something people could throw together cheap and toss in a closet to forget about until they get a 'noise event' (for lack of a better term) repeat. MANY of these go for 30-60 minutes and more...and a rare few seem to go for hours at a time.

During late September there was a thread on here that related hearing this for a couple nights in a row over New York City, itself. It was wee hours of the morning, and during the General Assembly of the United Nations, if everyone recalls that period of time. I figure it was one of their craft functioning as an area scanning platform or some other form of security function they could use it for in just a brief period in the middle of the night. That thread is one of the reasons I really got into learning what this was all about in the first place, actually...

Long duration events or repeating events over a period of time for that opportunity is critical....but fortunately, doesn't seem to be that unusual. Not for the time it would take to put something like this up, if it'd already been made and ....stuck in a closet, just in case.

Rather than start another thread for what amounts to a variation on this one, I had an idea to add to this in reading a rush of new noise reports tonight....

What kind...if any...directional microphone could ordinary people afford to buy, that would effectively allow a general heading for what direction the sound is coming from?

It seems to me that having a map with azimuth lines coming off the various sighting pins might just show another pattern that we can all use in trying to piece this puzzle together.

Okay, I have something that just occurred to me and I'd like to share. Rather than make a whole new thread, I figure it's enough to tack onto my existing one there and bump this thread, since the issues are linked and directly related.

It seems the night of the 25th/26th has been another very active one for sounds heard by people in the skies above. Someone on another thread was lamenting the fact these noises rarely record well on a cell phone or other fairly decent audio...and then I thought about the ones that come across SO strong, it's almost deafening. Those are ALSO the ones picking up the sound of leaves rustling and the breeze blowing across the microphone...and *BINGO*..THAT is the thing to think about, right there.

I'm going to suggest people start describing exactly WHAT they are using to record to noises in the sky when new threads are made........and I think we'll see a pattern which needs to get out so we can solve the problem.

Two Words.... NOISE CANCELLING! Doh!

These Cell Phones and some of the nice ...but not professional... cameras are picking up almost nothing despite the fact the people holding them apparently hear the noise fine. Well. what are these noises to a modern noise cancelling system as any GOOD cell phone has built in standard these days? I'll bet they sound just like what they're designed to filter OUT. Background noise and the hiss of wind.

So.... better equipment may be the opposite direction people want to go. I had a surveillance camera for the longest time I got from Sam's club in my carport. It cost me all of $40 at the time and the Mic would pick up a conversation on the porch of the house across the street spoken in normal tones. My Cell phone on the other hand, wouldn't pick up a baseball game with clarity while I'm standing in the middle of it.

Something to consider..as we find ways to properly document these events and seek real answers.
