I seem to e having a problem with Internet Explorer. Every once in a while (maybe once every two weeks or so?) I click on a link and instead of opening one new page or going back to a previous page IE starts opening window after window after window. This happens so quickly I can't even hope to close them all. I have to open the task manager and start closing them from there - eventually it works.

Is this an IE error, a Windows (XP) error or something else? Could this be a virus? I have tried scanning and found nothing. This happens on random links, though once it happens it always will with that link.

How can I fix this?

You need to get a free copy of Ad-Aware and run the program. It will remove all the spy ware on your computer and eliminate many of your problems.

Yes, I have that and have run it, but I still have this problem. Just happened today, even.

Do you have a pop-up blocker? If not win xp sp2 it includes one. I dont know if this will help your situation but its a start. Maybe increase your internet security and privacy levels, run an antivirus program

I've run the anti-virus, but I'll try the pop-up blocker and see if that helps. Guess if it doesn't happen for a month or so I'll consider it cured.

Thanks!

I've been through the browser progression. Hate IE, was shown Opera. Better, then found Mozilla Firefox. Now I'm a happy guy. See?

Firefox is good? Why (just wondering, here)?

  1. Its been proven faster
  2. Its been proven more secure. Its not swiss cheese like IE, and since its OpenSource bugs are found fast and fixed usually within a good day.
  3. Customizable - Much!
  4. Tabbed browsing - can have many websites open in 1 Window!
  5. BuiltIn PopUp Blocker!

Im not gonna say it doesnt have its down sides, it cant handle ActiveX, so youll still have to use IE or the AutoUpdate for WindowsUpdate.
