I first encountered 'eye' as a deliberate substitute for 'I' back in 2001. Since then I have seen several people use this deliberate double-talk.

Why oh why do they use 'eye' in place of 'I'?

I used to think replacing 'I' with 'Eye' was some sort of "in the know" understanding of esoterica, occult, metaphysics, or enlightened spirituality. I never asked before because I assumed, "One day I will understand." But this doesn't seem to be the case as my understandings evolve.

So many sayings and myths about the eye:
"The gateway to the Soul is through the Eyes."
"Eyes never lie."

There are so many quotes by poets, writers, philosophers, spiritualists, and intellects if you net search "Quotes + Eyes"

Could it be Masonic or Illuminated? You know, with the whole 'All Seeing Eye' or 'Eye of Providence'?

Could it be a throw-back to the Udjat, Eye of Horus, Eye of Ra?

Maybe we can tie it together with the Sun or it's alchemical symbol?

What is sight anyway? Converting photonic (light) energy into neuro information in one's mind. Even color is but the refraction, reflection, or deflection of light. Can we assume Light is needed for reality to exist? "Let there be Light!"

But what of the blind humans who have learned to utilize echo-location to know reality? What of the completely blind cave and oceanic life forms? Reality still goes on existing even while they lack light receptors.

The way 'I' see it;

I am not the 'Eye.'
I am not my eyes, nor my sight. 'I Am' the observer of sight.
I am not my ears, nor my hearing. 'I Am' the observer of sound.
I am not my nose, nor my sense of smell. 'I Am' the observer of scent.
I am not my tongue, nor my sense of taste. 'I Am' the observer of taste.
I am not my sensory receptors, nor my sense of touch. 'I Am' the observer of touch.
I am not my thoughts or emotions, nor my mind. 'I Am' the observer of thoughts and emotion.
I am not space, nor my sense of spatial dimension. 'I Am' the observer of space.
I am not time, nor my sense of movement. 'I Am' the observer of time.

So what exactly am I missing about the double-talk of 'Eye' instead of 'I'?

Eye have know eyedea.
Some people just try to be cute, some people type faster than their brain and some people just don't have good grammar.

It would be easy to chalk it off to error, spelling, or grammar, however, 'eye' is used deliberately by some as illustrated by capitalizing the word or capturing it with apostrophes.

Reminds me of people who insist on using "overstand" usually in the form of "OVERstand" instead of "understand"

My name have the "eye" meaning I.

It's pronounced "Me and i".

It should have been Meandi but back when i first used it on a web profile, it wouldent accept it so it became Mianeye.

The meaning of it is i am very close to my self, and allways talking to myself, to try understand things better, and sometimes i just get diveded in to two opinions, true and false, and can't get even with my self, which on is the right one.

It also have something to do with this

And last, my signature: If you was someone else and met your self.
Would you like your self?

Which have a big meaning from my past.

Thanks for the reply Jessop x's 3

With that one, at least I understand what is meant by 'overstand'. Why stand under knowledge when you can stand above it?

But even then, to understand something we must 'get to the bottom' of it.

So 'understand' is not inferior to 'overstand'.

But I still do not understand nor overstand 'eye' in place of 'I'.

Lol. I think it's just people trying to be perceived as intelligence or deep and nothing more, in both cases. That's why I mention overstand, because the people who seem to use it a lot only do so because they think it makes them sound enlightened and ahead of the crowd.

I bet people who say "eye" are doing so as well.

Thanks Mianeye for the background. Also, thanks for the song. I enjoyed it. Not a fan of modern music, but I sure do appreciate some old-school lyrical HipHop

Hello again absolutely. I hope you do not call me evil today

What about the blind humans who have learned to utilize echo-location to know reality? What of the completely blind cave and oceanic life forms? Reality still goes on existing even while they lack light receptors.

Will these humans and animals never be true or have awakened enlightenment?

I think that may be the case for some people. However, an extremely humble, pious, and intelligent friend I used to have would scribe 'Eye' in all of his writings. I wonder what I could be missing.

Thank you Submarines for that bit of info! I am familiar with 'aye'. However, the use of 'Eye' is very deliberate. For example, "Do you understand what Eye mean?"

Hello The1Prettiest1One. No need to get defensive, I didn't see your use of 'eye' recently and you were not the motivation behind this thread.

I first saw people using 'Eye' in place of 'I' when I was building with the Nation of Gods and Earths. I have wondered about it ever since.

Did you read the OP? Considering the OP, why do YOU use 'Eye'?

I wasn't being defensive, you were!

It was a funny coincidence and it's the first time I ever did it, just hours before you made a thread about it.

I have seen the substitution out of silliness or simply to convey some tenuous connection between The Eye of Horus and the usual secret cabals and "I (am)". I doubt I know any more than you; more likely you know more than I.

There are also other dubious etymologies around used as evidence for assertions, such as that in relation to Jesus, the Son (Sun).

Heres another "myth" about the eye...

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
