Santorum's version of Sharia for the US?

I know there are a number of Santorum threads already, but a recent article on CNN still gave me sort of a fresh look at this individual.

On Thanksgiving Day at an Iowa candidates' forum, he reiterated: "We have civil laws, but our civil laws have to comport with the higher law."

I should have followed this more carefully before, because this gave me hiccups. Separation of church and state? Nah...

Well, here's what Santorum had to say just last week when asked about his opposition to gay marriage: "We have Judeo-Christian values that are based on biblical truth. ... And those truths don't change just because people's attitudes may change."

I would agree with the author, Dean Obeidallah, that while all of this sounds not unlike Sharia...but...

"Imagine if either of the two Muslim members of Congress declared their support for a proposed American law based on verses from the Quran. The outcry would be deafening, especially from people like Santorum.

Why am I posting this? I guess because I'm quite puzzled as to why ANYONE would vote for this guy. I'm now afraid of going to Iowa. Gives me creeps.

Rape victims would be forced to give birth to the rapist's child. Santorum has stated that his religious beliefs dictate that life begins at conception, and as a result, rape victims would be sentenced to carrying the child of the rapist for nine months.

No. But I understand your concern about a slippery slope.
That's why SECULAR laws are what should be in place in every country in the world.
P.S. Don't worry .. he wont be POTUS. Romney is the crown prince.

Santorum is crazy...he appeals to evangelicals that want the Bible to be law.

The problem is...Republicans seem to like crazy...but I think Santorum may just be a little too crazy even for Republicans.

It is really bad when Mitt Romney is the sane one out of the group.

Santorum...like Cain, Perry etc. is a simple mechanism for many on the conservative right to express their anger...toward both the far left and the GOP establishment.

It's a frustrated emotional spasm of support and then the majority will reluctantly return to the most "electable"...Romney.

Romney doesn't "mobilize" the right. But he migth not have to as many on the right hate Pres. Obama so much that they don't need to be mobilized by the opposing candidate.

Romney voters will largley be holding thier nose.

But...the problem is the "middle"..the moderate independants...not the TP or Libertarians...but the average working Joe independant who is not an idealogue...those folks will be turned off by the far right positions Romney has taken, his lack of likeability/honesty factor and will weigh that against what they think about Pres. Obama.

It will be close...and it will be a dirtier election cycle than 08..more smears...more crazy...but I suspect those in the middle will lean Pres. Obama as long as the economy continues to slowly improve over the next 11 months.

Vegas odds still heavily favor President Obama...and those guys care about money more than politics
