Ron Paul May Have Secretly Won The Iowa Caucuses

DES MOINES — Ron Paul may have officially come in third tonight, but if the campaign's caucus strategy went off as planned, then Paul may actually be the real winner of the first Republican voting contest.

That's because Paul's massive organizational push in Iowa focused on both winning votes, and also on making sure that Paul supporters stuck around after the vote to make sure they were selected as county delegates — the first step towards being elected as a delegate to the Republican National Convention.

That's because Iowa's Republican caucuses are non-binding — they are technically just a straw poll, so once selected, delegates are free to vote for whichever presidential candidate they choose.

"Part of what we've been training the Ron Paul people to do is not to leave after the vote," Dan Godzich, a senior campaign advisor, told BI. "Stay and get elected to the conventions and get us those delegates."

If it is indeed the case that they walked out of there with more county delegates than Romney or Santorum, then that was a very clever strategy and a huge (or arrogant) oversight on the part of the "winners". Overall, Iowa contributes a tiny amount to the overall delegate totals, but every little bit helps his campaign.

but yea... if this is the case, it was very ignorant of the winning parties to claim victory when in reality it was just a 3-way tie.

well, there is the part where he is polling at only 12% of the "likely to vote republican" americans according to gallup.....

hmm.. moved, but not closed.. guess it is ok, then.

It's within the rules...but ultimately I don't think it will matter.

Here's the reason...these delegates only go to the country convention to elect delegates. Then there is the district convention, then the state convention where the final delegates are selected.

Plus...in most primaries...there is never a delegate count at the convention anyway...so the only delegate "count" out of Iowa that matters is the estimated one from the media.
