WOW! Jupiter is really bright tonight and so close to the moon! Just passing that along, here a little article, but head out for yourself its beautiful!!www.space.com...

The moon, appearing as a waxing gibbous phase, two-thirds illuminated, will appear to stand well above a very bright, non-twinkling, silvery "star." But it won't be a star that will be keeping the moon company on the second night of the New Year, but the largest planet in the solar system: Jupiter.

Jupiter is currently boldly shining fully three times brighter than Sirius, the brightest star in the sky (which comes up above the southeast horizon around 6:45 p.m.). It appears about 3 1/2 times dimmer than the dazzling planet Venus which itself appears to mimic a brilliant lamp well up in the southwest at nightfall.

I wont say Jupiter is very bright tonight, but i'll attribute that to the fact
that it is very close to the moon tonight. Unlike other nights I have seen it.
It is still bright, brighter than Sirius, but I have seen Jupiter on other nights
as I look at the sky almost every night, and it has been brighter.

lol, it's freezing out there. I'm staying in.

Plus, it's too cloudy to see anything.

Don't forget Wednesday is suppose to be a meteor shower night.

Yeah I saw it and boy was it COLD outside. I'm surprised I saw it though, because it was pretty cloudy out.

I was on a walk with the hound a few hours ago and noticed the pair.
I knew the ats community would have a thread. Thanks OP for the initiative.

I was just outside looking at Jupiter through my telescope. It is awesome to see the 4 maybe 5 (not sure if its a moon or another star in the distance) moons around it. Awesome View!!
