I agree with your unemployment statistics, but I work in an office where Obama posters and bumper stickers, and family portraits are rampant. His supporters have not gone anywhere!! He still has his entire base of support.

To beat him, a candidate will have to pull some of the disenfranchised Dems (like the Blue Dog Dems), and the Independents, and also mobilize a good turnout of Republicans. Romney can't do any of those things. Folks would just as soon vote for Obama as Romney.

Personally, I will not be voting for anybody that doesn't stand for pretty much the same things as me. I can vouch for most of my local Tea Party and they feel similarly, and so does most of my family. Nobody that I know will be supporting any of the other GOP candidates. Some might vote for Obama, some might do a write-in or a 3rd party candidate, and in general, most will probably just not vote.

So, what I see is either Ron Paul gets the nomination and energizes the voters, or some party puppet gets the nomination and the voters stay home, and Obama voters take it in a landslide.

This is a well-informed, and logical thinking person that leans a little left. Her race is between Paul and Obama already. There are tons and tons of more people like her. I am a registered Republican, and I voted for Obama last time around, because McCain was far too dangerous for the country and Palin was cuckoo.

There are tons of entrenched black voters that will vote for Obama. I know University Deans, Chiefs of Police, and PhD Professors that have pictures of the Obama family up on their desks and mantles like it is their own family. Obama is a black ICON and he isn't going anywhere easily. A recent poll found the majority of Hispanic voters still support Obama.

Obama needs a decent summer full of decent news, and he will be the strong front-runner.

Who cares about the unemployment rate if they keep extending benefits? Lots of people like being unemployed, and since 2008, a lot of people have adjusted their lifestyles and gotten quite comfortable living on entitlements.

I'm afraid your line of thinking is close to the whole GOP line of thinking, but it is drastically off-target!

Everyone else in the neighborhood already has nukes. Israel, Pakistan, India. Who are they going to blackmail? When Ron Paul takes the leash off Israel, they will be able to overwhelmingly respond to any aggression. A couple of small Iranian Nukes that are still at least a decade from fruition will not compare to the 100 hi-tech American nukes that Israel already has.

But, instead of pursuing those nukes a decade down the road, why not start helping them build a better infrastructure for power? Open up Iran for US contractors? Make some money, create some jobs, and expose them to our Western lifestyle?

A decade of sanctions that result in a small nuke, an isolated country, and a Middle East war, or a decade of diplomacy and trade that opens up commerce and cultures and gets improves the way of life in Iran and negates the need for a nuke?

I have known a couple of women from Iran that were students here in the US. They were proud, smart women. I asked them why they came to the US for education, and their answer was simple. US has the best educations. Her quote was exactly this (from memory), "We get our rice from China, or equipment from Russia, and our educations from US. We know how to get the best for our country."

Iran is not some evil monster hiding under our bed. They are people, and they can be influenced without bombs.

But, the 40% GOP, and the 20% anybodybutobama have to show up at the polls.

Obama's peeps will show up in mass. They will vote their 40% no matter what, and they will pick each other up, carpool, call their friends and family, and they will make sure they are at the polls. He's getting all of that 40%!!

But, will the GOP folks turn out in numbers to support Romney or Newt? No. They just don't care enough. My Mom won't drive to the poll to vote for Newt or Romney. She might do it to vote for Paul, and even that is an inconvenience, because FOX news has already told her he can't win.

It isn't just about percentages, it is about the turnout as well. No other GOP candidate will energize the voters. The 3rd Party and Independents aren't going to throw all their 20% to the GOP, they might not vote at all, or they might vote for an Independent or a 3rd party. Hell, my wife wrote in Spongebob at the last election, because she wanted to vote, but her conscience couldn't support Obama or McCain.

We'll have to wait for November 2012, but I'll lay a nice sized wager on Obama vs. anybody but Paul. Look me up closer to election time. If Paul doesn't get the nomination, I'll take on all wagers.

I love Ron Paul and I think Ventura is great.. but Ventura has a reputation that I think would ultimately hurt Ron's campaign .. his conspiracy theory show for one has a lot of those in the mainstream viewing him as nutty.. that could hurt Ron's chances .. I agree it would be a great pairing, but putting them together would probably eliminate Ron as a viable candidate in my opinion.

Can you imagine the field day the opposition would have? all the sound bites, video clips.. they would smear Ventura because of his conspiracy theories and that would make Ron look bad as a result.

Would somebody please explain to me why so many find Ventura so alluring, because the last I saw of him he was a mediocre wrestler or some kind of corny C-list film actor? What credentials does he possess that command so much awe and respect?

Before his TV show, I liked him. Former Navy SEAL, straight-shooter. He ran as an independent in Minnesota and won the Governor's seat in a complete upset and surprise. He tells some interesting stories about how alphabet agencies visited him after the win, and told him he wasn't supposed to win. Minnesotans loved him, and he had a successful tenure as their govenor.

He's been water-boarded as part of Seal training, and he says it is definitely torture, and he doesn't condone it.

He was a pretty decent outsider until the last couple of years, and it seems he is getting more and more kooky since 2008 or so.

He doesn't bring anything to a Paul ticket that Paul doesn't already have, and he draws attention to some of the negative impressions of a Paul ticket, so he is a very bad choice for a VP slot. He might be a decent Prez candidate in the future though.

Jesse Ventura is more or less a dream politician for 'the average ATS member'.

He referred to reporters as "media jackals," a term that even appeared on the press passes required to enter the governor's press area.

Most of us, in particular those of which you are referring spend our free time watching mindless tv and playing video games. Many of the people you are speaking of have no idea that anything is wrong and are happy to put him up again for four more. But consider that those people are not found at ATS. At least, probably not very many. Also consider that what passes for news these days is government influenced and filtered. Do not pay attention to the MSM. Get your news at ATS or similar place where you can really get the unfiltered opinion of the people.

I think since doing his conspiracy show,he's discovered the truth of governmental inner workings and that would make anyone seem kooky,,hell I feel kooky myself but you can't unlearn knowledge,sometime I wish I could! But your right about becoming a candidate,I think at this point Ron Paul has enough on his plate without having to back a controversial person like Jesse Ventura,even though I would vote for them as a running mates...Happy New Year!!!...and be safe
