The flaw of SOPA is that it depends on internet providers to pull the plug on websites that the authorities ordered.

Fair enough if the website is societally objectionable such as pedo or terrorism, but it may be use to target bonofide websites which happens or attempts to shed better insights on laws being legislated by the authorities, perhaps even opposition views.

Today, all gov may be fine and dandy, squeaky clean, claims it will only target worse sites, but no mortal can predict the future and who will rule. SOPA may end up protecting dictators, as the internet is being misused by China's net providers to become CCP propaganda mouthpieces.

Foolish net providers may toe the line, but their bottomline and very existance depends on private funds for revenue. As in the case of GoDaddy, it woke up too late as more will be exiting from them soon, just as many other foolish providers will face the same soon.

Worse of all is the lodestone for net providers - ADVERTISEMENT REVENUE. A significant portion of their earnings come from advertisement. One headline advert on a page charged at $200 a month. 100,000 free web pages for websites will be $20,000,000 or $20 million/mth. That's $240 million a yr. Not small change.

The small guy can do 2 things. Number one is to not create websites. Second is to BOYCOTT any advertiser on their webpages of SOPA supporting sites. Boycotting of advertisers will make the corps stop spending advert on the net, and then limit their out reach to global markets, causing their companies to lose market share or close down.

Controlling the internet is a doomed cause, for it is fully interlinked and dependent within the economy. Shut it down and billions will be lost. Even China dares not go too far, or its economy will head south even faster.

I canceled my hosting with GD a long time ago.. Here's why.

If you decide not to reup your domain name right away (I am refering to a domain no one on earth would probably think of nor would ever want to buy unless they're just buying names), GD will sell it to a 3rd party (one that they choose) to hold onto that name untill you want it back. It does not go back in the "not used domain bank"... It gets sold to someone else so YOU can pay THEM an extra 100+$ for a friggin domain that no one would want, that you created in the first place, so you have to pay them to get it back. They dont leave it up to chance.. They hold on to them because they KNOW you forgot to reup your $3.95 for the year and they KNOW you are gonna want it back... Easy extra $100 in GDs pockets.

What pricks! I've never had that happen to me with any other domain name.

Then, if you buy 1 domain name.. Oddly enough, all the others.. com, net, org, seem to get snatched up.. so you can pay them MORE money for a name that you could have gotten for $3 if you had chosen it first.

They're crooks, they're corrupt, they play to screw their customers.

Why do people have it out for their paying customers???? Always trying to bleed the turnips dry.. as if my friggin $3 isnt enough, you want an extra 100 to assure you get it all...

I wish companies like this would utterly FAIL and the owners go dirt poor broke! I mean cardboard box, walking the bronx at night, sleeping on the curb, broke!

The report indicates that over 15,000 domains were transferred off Thursday and another 21,054 domains on Friday. If you factor in the $6.99 to $10.99 fees associated with each of those domain registrations, Go Daddy is losing a significant amount of money.

GoDaddy CEO: ‘We’re Not Cynical Folks’

In an interview with Mashable shortly after GoDaddy announced its withdrawal of support for the Stop Online Piracy Act, new company CEO Warren Adelman said that the web hosting and domain registration service was acting purely in the best interest of its customers and would now “let others carry the ball forward” as the fiercely contested piece of legislation continues to make its way through Congress.

“After digesting what was being said online and looking at how we got involved in the process, we came to the conclusion that it wasn’t ready in its current state and that we’d step back and let others provide leadership,” Adelman said.

PLEASE NOTE he does NOT SAY that he is no longer supporting SOPA (goDaddy still is!), but only that they will let OTHERS "carry the ball forward".

Pressed for further clarification on Friday, a GoDaddy spokesperson simply reiterated that the “we have withdrawn our support of SOPA,” but would not say whether the company would take an active stance against the bill in its current form — something major sites and services such as Tumblr, Firefox and Reddit have done.

Also notice which Web browser has taken an active stance against SOPA - Mozilla's Firefox, coupled with their extensive privacy and security settings and add-ons, you may want to reconsider using IE or Google Chrome.
