Perry knocked off Va. primary ballot, only 2 candidates on it so far

Rick Perry has been knocked off the Virginia GOP primary ballot, a key bar for candidate credibility past the early states - and a surprising state of affairs for the only campaign other than Mitt Romney that has had the resources with which to organize.

The party acknowledged it on its Twitter feed, saying, ""After verification, RPV has determined that Rick Perry did not submit the required 10k signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary."

Well, this sure dosent look good for Perry. I wonder how the other candidates are doing with the Va. situation?

The only two candidates certified so far for the ballot are Mitt Romney and Ron Paul. Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman failed to submit the signatures.

That leaves Newt Gingrich as the remaining question mark - and as Jonathan Martin reported earlier, he still is not a lock for the ballot, given that he also only cleared the 10,000 signature by over 1,000.

So if Im reading the above correctly, only Paul and Romney are on the ballot while Gingrich is in limbo....Is Va. a major state in the primaries? Will this seriously affect the candidates, or is it just kind of a brush off state?

Well this is good I think you will find why Newt hasn't put him self to it yet is because if it is just three of them he will be made to look like a major fool. Now wont it be great to see Ron Paul and Romney go at it Romney will be made to look like he knows nothing and Ron will have a chance to take a percentage of his fan base good times ahead if this is indeed true story

VA seems to be a decent sized state to win, with 50 delegates. Their primary is on Super Tuesday. Perry/Gingrich need it more badly since they likely won't be getting as far as Romney/Paul.

The guy is an EPIC BOZO who does nothing for the state of Texas other than sucking the a$$es of the wealthy down there and crushing the middle-class and stamping out the American dream for the average person.

Everything he does screws the average working family down there. Epic bozo always kissing the a$$es of the wealthy at the expense of the middle-class.

He's good for nothing when it comes to the average American living in Texas.

The poor misguided folks down there vote him in because they are completely mesmerized by any devil politician who says the word "god" or "Christian" every once in a while.

Although im not a fan of Perry, or any other of the gop candidates (besides Paul and Huntsman), but it seems kind of unfair to exclude Perry and the others. I mean, its obvious they are running, and have atleast a little bit of support, so why not just put them on there?

Why even bother having them meet these requirements? It's almost silly. I mean does anyone think Rick Perry would be deterred from a serious campaign by a missed deadline? I'd posted a story myself the day it was reported that Newt missed the Missouri deadline for filing on the ballot here, but I'm going to feel safe in assuming I don't need to see how all that turned out to know his name will be there unless he's out of the race completely somehow.

Now of course it works great for keeping anyone smaller out. I'm sure there is absolutely no forgiveness or options for a 3rd party person who misses something like this. One more way to keep a one party system with two divisions made to look like choices.

Every state and party has their own rules. I guess its sort of another barrier of 'vetting' the candidates in their state.

Some of these 'barriers' might be set up there so that someone with all the money in the world with a huge ego can't just come and win their state without proper organization and enthusiastic supporters...maybe?

I don't understnad why they have to meet requirements to be on the ballot. I also don't understand the whole electoral college votes thing either, is there some reason (that actully makes sense and isn't just a bunch of bologna) that our elections are run this way?

Interesting.

I have always had a theory that some Politicians enter the Primaries with no intention of winning. They only enter for name exposure in preparation for a future run or they enter to muddy the waters or help split votes from other Candidates so that the "pick" can move on.

The VA primary is not until March. There is plenty of time between now and March for Candidates to drop out. Is it possible that some of these Politicians who are not on the ballot have done so intentionally because they know they will drop out before the Primary date?

If they can't get 10,000 signatures they shouldn't be in the debate why would you waste peoples time it is obvious the state wants nothing to do with them
