Check Christmas Packages Carefully - VIDEO

In the video below, you will see a package delivery handler throwing the package he is supposed to be handling with care.

I thought it was funny at first, but it appears that this may be more "common practice" among delivery drivers than we know. I found many other "delivery" videos on youtube after seeing this one.

I left a note on my door to leave the package with the neighbor, so I check my video cams, and this is what I see, he walks up, reads the note, walks over to our fence and THROWS it on to the neighbors porch!!

Holy Ish! Was that a TV or Computer (monitor)?

One time (when I had money) I made this huge order from JCrew...I lived way out in the country and when the package was delivered they just left it on the front porch. Well..one of my neighbors dogs came by grabbed the package and ripped it to holy shreds..clothes and all. When I got home I saw my beautiful baby pink georgette skirt laying in the mud. The rest of clothing and package was left strewn across the field. I was so smoking mad...but UPS replaced all items at no charge.

Now I make sure every single package I receive is SIGN only. I also make sure when I send pkgs..they are sign only too. Lesson learned.

Good advice! Sorry about your JCrew stuff becoming chew-toys. Good to hear that they replaced the items.

In my opinion, this is what happens when you set unrealistic targets on employees, they find away around them.

The honest people who do the job correctly end up fired for not meeting targets.

I don't know much about the delivery type positions. Do they have 'quotas' to meet, etc?

I thought it was something like - the driver gets a set number of packages to deliver as per his route and he's not done for the day until all packages have been delivered, etc.

But again, I don't know much about the job.

As far as I am aware in the UK you have real time monitored vans, targets to meet both in amount of deliveries and time spent at a certain area as well as time sensitive packages that need delivered by a specific time.

My old man used to do deliveries back in the 80's through to the 90's and he said the stress of it was unbelievable. The better you did, the more they piled on top of you. The original hours he used to work would be 6am - 3pm, by the time he left he was getting paid for 9 hours but he was not finishing until 10pm at night with the amount of deliveries piled onto him. That was before the tracking stuff was around too or the "key performance indicators" so I would expect it to be a really stressful job these days.

This was with a company that is now called Brakes in the UK which delivers to businesses though but I know a few people who work for companies like Parcelforce that tell a similar story.

Some years back I sent 2 packages of my
Mother's crystal collection by UPS. I was
at the airport to catch a plane and saw
my packages being thrown up on to the
conveyor belt. Completely mishandled.
When I received the packages on the
other end every piece was broken. They
did pay for everything in one day but
somethings you can't replace. And yes
it was packaged and marked correctly.
I order online these days but most
are sent parcel post and I haven't had
any problems.

Just remember that during this time, there is so much going through that I think the term postal might pop up again.

This is completely true right here and just scratches the surface. I worked for one of these companies for over ten years and the pressure put on employees is borderline criminal. It is unwritten and unspoken policy that these drivers do whatever it takes to get things done but at the same time are told to follow all of these restrictive procedures. They are given way too much work, not nearly enough time and management looks the other way for some and harasses and bullies others.

Thanks for all the input on the "other side" to this. I had no idea the demands on these handlers were so great.

It will give me pause before so easily blaming the driver for mishaps in the future.

My brother in law gets meds for colitis and pain delivered and it is supposed to be SIGN only and they left it in the door on Halloween and someone stole it... they said that it was cheaper to replace many packages then to resend a driver or man the store to have him pick it up... I have wondered how many kids got hurt that night over some driver not leaving a pick up slip in his door instead
