So you dont like Ron Paul? Well i am hearing Ron Paul would win NH too.

He'll never be President of this country. Too extreme on too many issues.

Absolutely.

Only Liars and crooks are allowed to be Presidents nowadays.
Only lemmings votes are counted too!

Even if he did away with SS, something would definitely be set up for people who were unable to work.. I doubt even the devil himself would cast millions of disabled people into the streets.

What I would LOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE to see is at least some way more strict regulations on disability. I knew a guy that was on disability because he was missing 3 fingers. I saw a guy *working* at Best Buy a year or 2 ago who was missing an arm... and this guy can't work with 7 fingers? Then there's always the famous "owww my back!" claim.... here's a desk job, have fun.

The problem isn't just will to work though ... it's also who WILL hire you. Maybe the 7 fingered guy has been discriminated against?

When I applied, I was rejected based on the belief of the government that Aspergers wasn't bad enough for me to not be able to work. They try to find a job in this economy (already hard enough) with a developmental disability!

I'm kinda like you. I don't mind helping people that need it... no problem at all.

However, I do know a man that is on disability and he goes up a deer tree stand, bow hunts, and enjoys everyday of hunting season at taxpayer expense because he is "disabled." Just think of all the muscle movements and agility involved in that...He could work, but he is classified disabled.

Also, yes, I think SS should be phased out...all those past 45 should have the option to stay in... everybody else 45 and below PLUS all those 45 and above that opt out will be paid out...in other words, receive back what they paid in... then when the last SS check is mailed...that's it...no more SS.

Because frankly, I really don't expect SS to be around in 13 years when I retire. That is why My wife and I are investing and saving like crazy to prep for retirement.

Entitlements hold people down and by design will not allow a person to improve their status in life. I have a part-time worker at the business I manage. She receives food stamps, WIC, and she has a full time job at a near by store that is a non-competitor. She started working at my store to make some extra cash, get ahead... I admire that. Well, last month... the Federal folks and Public Housing folks found out she was making extra money... they cut her foodstamps, WIC, and raised the rent at her public housing... As such, they negated her efforts to improve her lot in life. She actually lost more in benefits than she was making extra at my store...

She is debating quiting and going back to just one job to increase her foodstamps, WIC, and lower her rent...

Thereby illustrating the point I made in another thread about "children being serfs of the government" and "keeping people down on the plantation." Any entitlement is designed to keep people in their place and dependent on the government...Big Brother has turned into Suger Daddy.

Well done my friend! The character assassinations on RP have got to be addressed. All too often everything, and I mean everything, is taken out of context to serve the needs of the other candidates. You have obviously been paying attention and we need more "informed" citizens like you. Keep marching.

Yes, move back in with your parents. Sounds mean and I realize no one wants to move back in with their parents, but if you can't provide for yourself (either physically or "the system" holds you back) it is your family that should take care of you, not the government.

His stance on SS i believe is that the government made a promise to the people paying in to it and he intends to keep that promise, but will allow people under the age of 25 the opportunity to opt out. Seniors wont be left out on the street to fend for themselves, although the media will no doubt try to paint it that way.

I think one of the biggest problems America faces right now is pride. For awhile, we Americans enjoyed the lifestyle of families being able to own multiple homes. It wasn't too long ago that entire families lived together in America. In many countries, its completely normal for 3 generations of family to live under the same roof. I am almost 30 years old, getting out of the military sometime in the next couple of years. Unfortunately, it is doubtful that I wil be able to own my home once I get out, so my wife, my child and I will be moving in with her parents. Now the pride in me definitely disagrees with it, but I started thinking about it. My daughter will have the benefit of 4 parental units in the house. Between four adults, my daughter will usually have someone to care for her at all hours of the day. Utility and housing bills could be split 4 ways instead of two. When it comes to holidays, I might actually get to spend a holiday with members of my extended family.
Sometimes I think that our society would have been better if our families stuck together a bit more, rather than moving apart. Yes, I do like freedoms of being the head of the household and the privacy, but the pros for the family as a whole out-weighs the cons.
Yes, Ron Paul would like to get out of SS, but as he has stated, he will not be leaving those on it right now in the cold. As he stated it will not be an overnight process, he plans on using some of the funding that saves from the wars and military operations to prop it up while he gets the younger generations off of it. He is not against help and support of people who do need some assistance. His stance is that the states individually decide how they would like to help the elderly, disabled, and etc.
Personally, I think it should be up to direct communities themselves to help out, that way, those who truly need help will not only recieve help, but they will have a tangible person or group to thank, building the community up even more. We would have less people cheating the system because those trying to cheat the system will have to look that person in the eye who they plan on stealing from. Would it completely stop the cheating of the system? No, but it will deter it when they actually see who they are taking money from.
One can say that America may be too selfish to personally take care of their own people, but I'd like to think that we can and we will if placed in a situation. Mandating drug laws, retirement savings, community welfare and overall regulating our decisions ultimately shows that government does not trust us to take care of ourselves, take care of others, and take care of the community. As I said, I think Americans and all human beings in general have the capacity to make the right decisions without all of the laws, regulations, and government agencies.

Soul brother

I would find the coverage much more suspicious if suddenly the networks started fawning over our man. He is their explicit enemy. The Constitution is the enemy of tyranny, secrecy and elitism. By professing belief in the Constitution, Ron Paul has declared war on them.

If they started loving all over him, I'd get worried that they have a sinister plan.
But they don't.

I like a lot of Ron Paul's ideas, but I have a question.

I have Asperger's Syndrome, which makes me very undesirable as an employee. Very few people would hire me. Hence, I'm on SSDI.

If Ron Paul gets rid of SSDI and other Social Security programs, will I have to beg from a hat instead? Or move back in with my parents?

Let's go ahead and clarify this properly:

Of course, just as the welfare-warfare state was not constructed in 100 days, it could not be dismantled in the first 100 days of any presidency. While our goal is to reduce the size of the state as quickly as possible, we should always make sure our immediate proposals minimize social disruption and human suffering. Thus, we should not seek to abolish the social safety net overnight because that would harm those who have grown dependent on government-provided welfare. Instead, we would want to give individuals who have come to rely on the state time to prepare for the day when responsibility for providing aide is returned to those organizations best able to administer compassionate and effective help—churches and private charities...

,,,A constitutionalist president’s budget should do the following:

1. Reduce overall federal spending

2. Prioritize cuts in oversize expenditures, especially the military

3. Prioritize cuts in corporate welfare

4. Use 50 percent of the savings from cuts in overseas spending to shore up entitlement programs for those who are dependent on them and the other 50 percent to pay down the debt

5. Provide for reduction in federal bureaucracy and lay out a plan to return responsibility for education to the states

6. Begin transitioning entitlement programs from a system where all Americans are forced to participate into one where taxpayers can opt out of the programs and make their own provisions for retirement and medical care

(From Paul's My Plan for a Freedom President available here and discussed in the related thread in my signature).

No, Paul would not suggest putting you on the street. He would, first off, work to make these programs solvent again for those relying on them, then work on a shift toward other options more appropriate for this. Additionally, Paul has no issues with the states doing whatever they like on these issues - I would suggest getting involved in your local and state politics to work toward something like this.

That being said, Asperger's does not prevent you from working at all - there are all types of jobs out there that work well with all types of personality issues. Some further education or training may be called for, but I'm more than a little sure there are industries likely more or less tailored to the asperger's crowd (that don't involve a whole lot of customer interaction/interpersonal contact, are benefited by the focus given to some topics with asperger's, and so forth). Footwork may be required, but there are pretty much options for anyone willing to innovate and able to put in the effort.

Take care.

You would have to do neither.

Ron Paul has been very clear that doing away with Social Security is not possible at this point in time. Ideally, he would love to get rid of SS, realistically there are too many people including older people who have bought into this system their entire lives and they are now dependent on that system. What he wants to do is give people, especially younger people, a chance to opt out.

Opting out is a far cry from removing. So guess what that means for you? You will not have to move in with your parents, you will not have to beg from a hat. Your SS will not go anywhere, unless you want it to.

This is a true statement, but Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid are NOT entitlement programs...They were programs designed to provide a safety net for people who did not believe in private firms, insurance companies, banks, etc., handling their money for issues of retirement or medical care in their old age...so they sent THEIR MONEY to the government, expecting something in return...Of course, the government, just like the big banks, ended up SCREWING them...All a set up...and a reason to do away with it...

Ron Paul needs to go to a consumption tax...People can KEEP ALL THE RESULTS OF THEIR PRODUCTION, CORPORATIONS KEEP ALL THE RESULTS OF THEIR PRODUCTION...the difference becomes when they pay 25 cents to the government for EVERY DOLLAR they spend...No matter what...No more deficit...GDP is 5 trillion, the government gets 25 percent of that...covers any budget...plus plenty left over for graft and sticky fingers...

They showed Ron Paul's face next to Romney and Gingrich and had him 3rd in some poll they were talking about. Mind you, I have watched a lot to see if they ever do mention him and they never do. Then they showed some footage of R and G, then Mr. Poopalus stated that there was a new frontrunner in Iowa. I paused and was like, "will he say it???" And then, RON PAUL!! I was ecstatic to hear them FINALLY acknowledging him and then I heard Mr. Poopalus utter a remark after he stated that....He was like, "but everybody has been at the top" The way he said it, you could tell he was pissed or something...I was thinking, "really?" He is the frontrunner now and you are STILL bashing on him. They will know soon enough
Sorry for no link to anything as I can't find anything as it was just on tv a little while ago.

I want to vote for Ron Paul. I want to believe his message because I like the guy but then I read a post from one of his voting block and I have to think again.

Ron Paul is getting over looked by the media - well there's a fresh message. Are we going to hear exclaims of surprise whenever he gets some recognition? This is going to be a long race.

It becomes hard to take Ron Paul seriously in spite of the fact I am on board with MOST of what he says when I come across his proponents calling the news casters poop and if that is not adolescent enough, using the word poop repeatedly...I was like, I was like really...kinda turned off. .

Oh the humor...I guess is lost on me. But then I am not 13.
I don't want to follow a simpleton just because other people are rallying around him, especially some of these nut jobs. Some people do Mr Paul more harm than good by endorsing him.

Yes, I question the level of maturity and actual grasp on things coming from some of his biggest fans and so it makes me question the man.

Many of Ron Paul's followers and electorate are an awful lot like groupies following a band more than intelligent people who know the issues and are involved in a competitive political process. Come on, seriously.....poop?

"Fart" cannot be far behind.

I would like to thank you for a very well thought and written post. You have summed up what so many of us believe and know to be true. As a bi-racial individual, I do not find anything thus far extreme nor racist about Dr. Ron Paul. As a matter of fact, he has opened my eyes to so many issues that were just not "on my plate" at the time...meaning, I had not considered nor explored until I began to pay attention to "what" Dr. Paul was saying.

I am not ashamed to admit that I indeed "cheerfully" voted for Obama, yet to my dismay, the disappointment set in at the beginning of this year. Sure, I was happy that a black man (actually a bi-racial man that I felt I could identify with) finally had a shot at running this wonderful nation we all call "Home", but President Obama's current track record speaks for itself. No, I did not vote for him simply because of his various ethnicities, but for so many in the minority communities, it was a huge consideration, but I/We did believed in him nonetheless. I/We believed that he was going to bring the change that every single American citizen deserves regardless of color and that enticed me in a serious way. By the way, I was so distraught by the betrayal, that I had pretty much given up on the whole election process vowing to never again punch in my vote, but do a write in.

Anyway, before I turn my post into a rant, I will stop and just say thank you again for being so eloquent and on point. It's people like you, that force people like myself to re-think politics and ethics.

I think one of the major reasons Ron Paul will not get the (senior) vote...(and there are many, many seniors) is because of his stance on Social Security.

I am not being condescending with my post and I enjoy your threads/comments immensely. Although, I do not know Dr. Paul's stance on Social Security. I think it needs to be done with and abolished. I personally am tired of paying into a system that will most probably not be there when I'm a senior. Even if it is available, can I actually live on the peanuts they dish out? It's just another thorn in the sides of so many Americans...it's a financial burden. I have no problem caring for the elderly members in my family, and as a matter of fact, I was raised with the notion of it being my duty to care for my elders. This is how it should be done...we need to look out for one another. This is how I'm raising my family.

In addition to that, I do not plan on collecting Social Security when I'm past working age (whatever that is in a biological sense) because I will be hydro farming until the day I die and practicing chemistry until I can read no more or my hands stop working...lol, which ever comes first. I am in my early forties with two children in college (and a 13 year old who plans on attending college with hopes of restoring/repairing failed body parts, basically stem cell therapy) and I plan on retiring happy in South Africa, without putting a burden on my children or grandchildren. I was not raised to depend on anyone to do anything for me and I certainly do not plan on going out that way either. It is my responsibility to reserve financial security for myself and those I love and if I have something left over, I will share it willfully with those who need it the most. When I say my responsibility to secure my financial future....I mean that in such a serious way, you would not believe some of the jobs that my husband and I take to make this possible. We are the ones collecting peanuts...but before you know it, I will be making peanut butter and selling it. Yes, I do believe in capitalism....not greed!

I do not want you to think I'm on the attack, because that is not what this particular post is about. However, we all need to consider our futures and prepare diligently...this is a fact.

So I conclude with the utmost respect to your post with this....just prepare yourself and your family....do not be dependent, this only leads to dependence, something you should never look forward too...Ever!

With Much Love,
Public

ETA:
I am not saying leave our current seniors hanging out to dry so to speak, who depend on Social Security. I am simply saying that the future American society/culture as a whole needs to learn how to save and prepare, no matter your financial background, rich, poor or somewhere in between.

This can be accomplished for staters with a better educational system which demands nothing more than a "realistic" view/future outlook on finances starting in kindergarden...like my now college students Kindergarden teacher did 18 years ago (they actually taught these kids how to budget and write checks...these types of teachers are almost extinct).

LMAO, you'd be hard pressed to make my daughter part with her hard earned dollars unless you need it more than she.
