What's easier for a secular person to hate than an ultra-Orthodox Jew who sets fire to an Israeli flag on the holiday of Lag Ba'omer? The answer is a religious West Bank Jewish settler who torches a mosque on any old day. The shared revulsion of those thugs who have acquired the nickname "hilltop youth" and whose hate crimes have euphemistically come to be called "price tag" attacks assuages the consciences of those who consider themselves secular liberals.

All of us are against the band of rabbis who called for Jews not to rent to Arabs in Safed. All of us are against the fundamentalist rabbis from the settlement of Yitzhar whose students throw stones at army officers.

Interesting article and I thought I had to share.

That would be difficult to achieve when the Talmud is an overtly racist book. This article resides in cloud-cukoo land.

You might not be the right person to ask, but I noticed the word "racist" in your headline. Is this Middle East problem one of one race against another? If so, which are the two races involved?

But if it's a question of one nationality against another, the question looks a lot different.

Perhaps it's a question of one political wing against another? That would make it look like America's fringe right angainst fringe left, and that would be still a different problem.

Can you help me understand here?

"Israel can be Jewish without being racist,"

might be better understood as;

"Israel can be Jewish without being religiously intolerable,"

This is not about "race" is it?

from the Haaretz article;

The most racist legislative proposals have been the product of Knesset members such as Avigdor Lieberman, Avi Dichter, Danny Danon, Yariv Levin, Faina Kirshenbaum and Anastassia Michaeli, none of whom have religious motives. In their holy writ - that is, opinion poll results - it is said that most of the Jewish population supports limiting the right to vote, allowing only those who swear allegiance to the Jewish state to have a say in who gets elected to run the country.

The names sound more European than Middle-Eastern.

So then, which "races" are actually involved here?

Maybe Israel is a victim of pseudo-Judaism?

"It was not religious people who coined the phrase 'demographic problem'; it was not they who legislated the Law of Return [giving Jews abroad the right to immigrate to Israel]; it was not they who founded the Jewish National Fund; not they who declared the policy to make the Negev and Galilee more Jewish," he writes.

So what "races" are involved here?

Or is it "ethnicity"?

I watched a video on here where a rather american sounding jew with a beard and a tophat was holding a rally against allowing black people into Israel and he had some very...colorful words to say about allowing "plantation darkies" immigrate to Israel in regards to some Sudanese that have taken up residence in Israel.

Look back in the history of the jews. We know that in Jesus' time it was illegal for a gentile to approach a jew or even to initate dialoge. Gentiles could only speak to a jew when spoken to and a jew wouldn't allow a Samaritan's (privince in Israel) shadow to fall on his personage. Jesus was one of the only jews who would even have anything to do with a gentile. Biblical proof of their racism right there.

You can still be a jew without being a rcist, if you learn to forgive and to be kind which is a lesson they could learn from their messiah if they'd stop rejecting him.
