If you had let's say 20,000 dlls to start, what type of (legal, of course) business would you do? what do you think your city needs and what would you like to see there?

I would have a hybrid business model: one half would be computer repair shop, the other half would be paranormal investigation/cleansing.

Ohh, I would have my own jewelry business. Handmade jewelry and clothes. I love crafting.

I think I would need a bit more than that.

I have always wanted to run a lan party/coffee shop type place.

Cali? $20k says alot in this foreclosure oriented market everywhere else...course if its that typical upscale cali crowd you could probably charge a decent cover charge at the door.and or rent warehouse space we have vacant space in malls and stripmall space every where here..(midwest).

20K is enough to cover three months operating expense and 5K worth of start up inventory for a shop specializing in street magic and illusion supplies. When most parents were playing go fish with their kids, I was teaching mine how to palm an ace and false shuffle a deck. As a result, my kids never take things at face value and know how to interact with people past texting, LOL's, and status updates. Like the man said, "Mundus vult decipi, ergo decipiatur."

I used to have a floral business and I cancelled my vendor's
licence over a year ago.
The only business I would use any kind of money for would be
stuff for SHTF.

There is no way 20k could start up a business in my area, but I would like to start a Made in the USA store.
I would carry a variety of goods manufactured here in the U.S. Not that there is very much made here any more, but I live in a fairly conservative part of Ca, (oxymoron right?) and it would be a nice convenience for people like me who do try to buy more American made products than products made in China.

I'm still desperate to start a record label to release not only my own separate genres of music/side projects but also those of my friend's bands and other local metal bands.

Maybe even have a rehearsal/recording studio set up too for them at rates cheaper than the more known places that charge way too much per hour.

Brick and mortar isn't exactly "dead" : but the future is online distribution of content.Music can be mixed and distibuted for little to no investment with a decent desktop computer on a kitchen table...NO?

Used to be to sell stock photography One had to shoot transparency film($7.00/roll); have it processed($7.00 /roll),and mounted into slides; Make multiple film copies($$); label the slides, put in slide sheets package/insure and mail $$; wait a couple of months for an editor to get around to going through their submissions in basket; take alook; repackage and return mail it(your return postage$$) Now it all done online for pennies. Its Just as different as "night and day").

Robert Rodriguez shot "el- mariachi" on film/ edited it together an distributed on " tape"for $7,000.00 Now he shoots digital; edits in his home studio himself /sound and all.

I'm not sure you folks recognize the amazing advantages of being alive today,as far as working on your own businesses. Amazing opportunities with cheap digital technology. Its far easier and less costly to get started today.

I would open a pay for play indoor shooting range and gun shop. Test guns before you buy them and learn to handle the ones you have properly.

An ebay store is like $15.00 a month! get a decent camera learn to shoot good tabletop shots...or find an interested local photographer. It's not that hard to sell on ebay.

would like to make common american food favorites at the specifications of 50+ years ago. all our favorite foods, with no soy, aspartame, HFC's, etc....... just good ol' fashion sugar, calories, and fat. everything tasted better before these new recipes and ways of thinking took hold. I think my idea would work, but would cost alot more then $20k.

either that or sell pre-made "bug-out" bags........

Uhh... you've obviously got a computer;some internet "savvy".... and an internet connection....I think the answer presents itself.. $20K is a hell of alot of money to "run with" online.

Oh, I already have an Etsy account.

But I don't have as much free time to make stuff as I'd like. So I have to take baby steps.
