Lovecraft was a prophet

They really should have made a good Cthulhu movie, by now. Lazy freaking Hollywood. They never made The Talisman, either. Spielberg's had the rights to that book forever, now.

In The Mouth of Madness is a good Lovecraftian flick. Goes into the nature of what belief can do to a story. I believe Lovecraft was more right then he knew.

So, today is 12/21/12. End of the world. Perhaps tonight, the stars will be right? Speaking of Lovecraft, has anyone heard of Sandy Island, out in New Caledonia? An island that's appeared on charts since 1902 that seems to have mysteriously disappeared, or never existed to begin with. Seems similar to R'yleh. Maybe it shall rise tonight.

You mean the King/Straub Talisman? I would LOVE to see that movie. Talk about prophecy.... Clive Barker is on the right track too with novels like Weaveworld and Imajica. King of course is head over heels into the multiverse with his Dark Tower trilogy. Sure it's fiction, but the kind of fiction that resonates with what we know even if we don't know it.

Lovecraft was a racist and a prude and probably not a very fun guy to take out for a few drinks - at least Poe was a respectable drunk - but HPL was definitely "tuned in." I don't know if I'd call him a prophet but his work hints at some insights that go deeper than his own fears.

Perhaps he managed to tap into that collective conscious. Lovecraft wasn't a racist, he was a xenophobe. He feared things that were unknown to him, and the fear of the unknown is the most basic and universal fear there is. People have said to me that so and so's a metaphor for some such race, or whatever, but I don't buy it. He meant what he was writing. Not some coded reference to people of color or some such nonsense. Now, George Lucas, there's a hack writer. Every one of his races was a thinly veiled stereotype of some such race, like the wookiees being space africans in that they were burly and mostly tribal and occasionally had an educated one go off and join the white folks. The Mon-calamari were the asians. What ever Watto was in that piece of trash the phantom menace was was a space jew. The man knows nothing but thinly characterized stereotypes and archetypes.

But Lovecraft, he was actually unique. A real diamond in the rough. There is 95 percent of the ocean still left unexplored. There's something out there, something weird and enormous. Something had to have caused Bloop, and Train, and Julia. All these unknown anomalous organic sounds coming from the depths... right around R'yleh...

You know, with the epidemic of crazy people lately, and mass shootings and such, I can't help but think of how in the Lovecraft mythology that he spoke of folks going mad in the precursor to the Elder Gods waking.

Perhaps we are not being told the full story of the Carnival Triumph. I thought of Lovecraft fleetingly when I contemplated being stuck on a powerless titan on the sea. A throwback to a more primal, savage time. Anarchistic.
These cruise ships have disturbing numbers of people who go missing from them, never to be heard from again. Swallowed up by the hungry sea. Eerie.

Think about it, and if you are a Sci Fi fan at all, then it becomes obvious that someone had advance knowledge. Does that make them a profit, or are we living in an age where we finally see that time is simply a circle to justify a common misconception, call it ignorance, deny it, and proceed with the making of the world as a certain hell, or paradise for some.....

Having been a sci fi reader for years, yes I think Lovecraft called what had already happened before....and woe to all of us left who have to live it....

Classic flick. Are you saying that Carnival Cruise lines may become some sort of floating carnival of the damned? I could see that happening. If not literally, then metaphorically. It may have already happened, even.

having seen it, I think I may be experiencing it, and wish it wasn't so f#$#ing classic. LOL.

don't want to brand the cruise line with such, as I don't really know. Just sayin.....these times we are in really make one wonder.....wa wa wa wonder,,,,,why.....

Time to dig out the Necronomicon and see what might be done. Maybe visit the Mountains of Madness as I have always been intrigued by those giant penguins, and then maybe dream time...The dream quest of the unknown kadath....yeah

So, they've found a large, underwater monolith in the Sea of Galilee. I thought of this when I heard about it. Apparently, it's some sort of burial cairn. I wonder for who, or what it was intended to bury. Very curious.

It seems that we are currently at the point where Polaris is burning in the sky again. So, if he is, we may see soon.

Maybe Comet Ison?
