Same corruption....just better at hiding it it seems. We don't have military style checkpoints on our streets....yet.
It is a crap load more expensive to live here though.

You know Montreal is cold in the winter right? like -25deg F

Canada is safer -- presuming you choose to live in a safe city with a high quality of life.

Vancouver and Calgary are expensive places to live, but they are routinely rated as some of the best cities in the world to live in.

Just don't move to Winnipeg...

Economically we seem to be doing quite well up here, compared to other countries.
I think it's safer because we have much less people. Way more wilderness. Much of it cold in the winter. Good snowmobiling....

Some stuff is expensive, our minimum wage is $9 or $10 ish, depending on the province. And medical is covered. Not dental though, that gets expensive.

I like our political system better, we can kick out our PM if he misbehaves too badly, we're not stuck for 4 years if he does a really bad job.

They are starting to put in some stricter laws, and it's hard to immigrate into Canada, but I know nothing about visiting/work visas.

Being from Florida, you might find it cold here, but it really is a beautiful big country. Research everything before you make a decision to move. Every province is very different from one another.

Welcome to ATS.

Yes I second that. There's something in the water there...or they forget to wear toques in the winter.....

I hate Vancouver.....more because It acts like the Capital of the Province when its not...and therefor get's major funding for projects where other communities get snubbed.

Id say take a trip across. Lot's of variation. West coast Island living is pretty awesome

We live on the border with the USA here in Ontario and I can tell you right now that people across the border in the US are not happy.
We have some friends there..... not a lot but what we do have are very pissed and scared.
It is much safer to live here for sure but it will be a major adjustment to you.
Higher taxes, better health care, colder climate, much lower crime rate ( violent is especially low) compared to the states.
But as I type this I fear for our country as I see Mr Harper looming and dooming us to a almost certain USA style demise.

This subject comes up repeated. Evidently, some of these asking this question tend to think they can skate from one country to the another as easy as jumping states or taking a vacation to Canada, Mexico, etc. Get a visa and Presto! You are "free."

Please, before anymore of you start threads like this, use your computer--you do use one, right?, and look up immigration to that country. I guarantee you that most of you will not qualify to move to almost any country you would favor. Basically, if you don't have ample resources (lots of mula) and/or a specialized talent, you ain't gonna get admitted as a resident to work. It is that simple.

Well said sir/madam but and I do mean but......If the USA keeps up with their military style of policing and bashing the public.
I do believe some folks will qualify for refugee status here.
We don't do tanks for police here yet..............Last time I had a cop show up here (neighbour bitch) we had a good laugh and I didn't see any black boots or body armour on him.
If you have a skill that may be valuable to this country you might be entitled for entrance.
Don't think it is impossible.
Tons of refugees are coming here every year and some have no skills whatso-ever.

A) I'd say Canada is safer, though I enjoy my visits to the States.
B) Before you go fleeing your home and native land...oops, sorry, that's us...I'd get a better handle on these FEMA camps you are worried about. My guess is that it's all fearmongering and poop.

That being said, we'll leave the porch light on and a beer in the fridge.

I didn't want to tell anybody but i understand all the FEMA camp stuff has been outsourced to Canada. Lots of jobs and your family will be delivered for free. The FEMA stuff is BS but fishing in Canada is pretty darn good and welfare is easier to get

i am mexican citizen and american resident. since mexico is part of north american trade agreement and all this other stuff it seems they are eager to allow mexicans into canada since most mexicans rather go to u.s.a i am aware that montreal is really cold but i guess ill just have to go to cancun during the winter months c; money is not that much of a problem .

the thing i fear is that our mexican president does everything obama tells him so im pretty sure mexico will follow in what u.s.a does. i have a feeling since canada has way less population than u.s and mexico they might not try to push anything to radical there.

Only problem is that our Steve aspires to be Bush Jr when he grows up.

Personally I am banned from entering the land of the loonie. I would have to say Canada is a safer place as far as violence goes. However when the SHTF I will be glad to be here in the USA. Canada would be a hard place to survive in without the niceties of technology.

Canada is safer hands down!
though it's a major climate change from Fla.
Too much scary stuff going on anymore in the USA.
