So, I was in the pub with my mates talking about ATS and conspiracy theories in general
After many beers, Alcohol logic took control of the conversation and alot of silly things and theories were proposed, but then between us, one gem took form.

What if SPAM E-mails are not annoying rubbish that fills our in-box, but in fact messages sent via E-mail to either agents or terrorist cells ?

Our logic was thus :-

You want to contact your agent/terrorist and give him information, but if you E-mailed him directly GCHQ/MI6 or the NSA/CIA would most likely intercept it and trace it. If you spammed out a million e-mails with a hidden message buried into it, for those who know the code or what to look for, the authorities would never be the wiser !!

your thoughts are most appreciated

Peace

I must say, that is a very smart idea. And even better than hiding the message in an encrypted text in a jpg file.
KUDOS for you!!

I've heard tell that sometimes the best breakthrough ideas are those which are had while drunk or other such means. Good musing, friend.

I know I get a lot of spams with the subject as aoweirhgaeowri
and the body is
aorihg agohaeroigh oierhgeobneorbiobanero

and you sit there going 'why even send this? It means nothing! It's not even a language."
But now thanks to your musings, I have to add on: ">_> or IS it?????"

It's a good idea. Of course, if your enemy had the key you decipher the message with, the message would be easily available. Although, as a signalling vehicle, it would work flawlessly.

What a fantastic theory , OP .

Maybe we should copy and paste some of our most Ambiguous spam mail here and who knows , maybe somebody on ATS will decipher them ?

imo, I think there would be a lot more reliable and easier ways to send messages covertly.

Easier in the sense that setting up a network of servers to spam can be tiresome. I have a close friend that spams for companies, and I've helped him on many occasions putting together servers for this kind of thing and I must say.... it's a pain in the ass.

Reliable in the sense that it's way to easy for a spammer to get black listed. I would say my friend spends more time getting removed from blacklists (he can because he follows the laws that dictate what he can and cannot do) than actually working on the servers and software. I mean, if you really really need that message to get through, then you're relying on a crap shoot at best.

Just my thoughts on the matter...

Though, maybe we should send Seal Team 6 to Nigeria just to make sure...

Trojan spam.

Doubt that they get on feedback loops and set up domain keys...maybe they're secretly CheetahMail?

the spam would be best as just telling the person at the other end to do a certain act such as the price for viagra is $1.56 so they can lookup and do what code 156 is for example and it doesn't matter how long the NSA/GCHQ sit reading the rest of the email as its just filler to tell the operative its time to do 156

I think there could be something to this, Im on my 4th JD and coke so it must be a drink thing coz its so obvious now I think about it.

While on the topic of drunken moments of clarity, during a bender a few yrs back me and a few friends were talking about star wars and came to the conclusion that Han Solo and Chewbacca were in fact lovers!!!

Think about it!!!

At no stage during the first trilogy does it mention Chewbacca as as a male, its either Chewbacca or the Wookie.
It explains alot in my opinion including why Chewy is so feminine and why Han is so protective of her.

Glad I could help

I think I need to pull out my decoder ring. Sorry if that sounded sarcastic. I'm being serious.
It sounds like a great idea. I mean it would be something I would do. People and maybe Intel people would just go "not more junk mail" and delete it without reading it or even looking at it.
The funny thing would be if the spy/terrorist didn't know which was real spam and which was the message and deleted the message or decoded the wrong message and walked right into the police station or something. Kind of reminds me of that cell phone commercial where the guy on the flash mob doesn't get the message till after he starts and he's the only one dancing.

This would indeed be a good method of transmission, but why would you do that when it would be just as easy to, say, use a Tor-style network to send a message?

Thanks for all the replies so far and I'm liking very much the fact that Chewbacca could be a female, I'll drop that bomb next time we're drinking.

Like I said, there were lots of Theories spouted, this one is the only one that seemed plausable. I'll not get into the logic of how we came up with the Theory that the X-Files was created to prepare America for the introduction of the 'New of the World' newspaper.

Going off topic on my own post....

I couldn't stop thinking about your revelation about Chewbacca being a girl, so went looking for proof and I think I've found it :-

Chewbacca to appear in an episode of GLEE

He must be female to appear in such a show... Either that or totally gay.
