Scribe, I can agree with you, but only to a certain extent, yes, things could be a heck of a lot worse than what they are now, that technology is
saving us from, but what you are talking about are all physical aspects, how life has become better and easier with all these technological
advancements, but all of these things matters nothing, when people themselves have become bitter and dark themselves. People themselves have become
darker, depressed, cynical and bitter, that is what the OP is talking about. All the tech in the world doesn't matter, if the people themselves are
worse than they were in the days that you are talking about.
Yes, in those days, they used to burn people at the stake, and all the other things you mentioned, leeches by the way are now scientifically proven to
be beneficial, and being used more and more often again. Apparently they can do a better job than our tech but in a controlled environment
the
thing is, in those days, people had a sort of community thing going between them, they were ... together, for want of a better word, they were more
positive, and they stood together, they had this sort of community comrade thing going on, which we don't have these days. We actually have a
craving for it, hence we're joining online communities where others like us are going to find it again, because we can't find it in our own
communities. Everybody has become all about self, the ego thing. Everything is about; "what's in it for me". That is what I think the OP is
trying to get at.
The OP is quite correct, our very instincts to find a community and comrade with others online is proof that we have a craving to have that back in
our lives, the way things are now, is rather lonely, and it seems to be a constant battle for self-preservation, the me myself and I syndrome tends to
isolate us from each other. The only way to combat this, is through mutual love. Mutual love doesn't mean to suddenly hold hands and hug and all
that smoochy stuff, it means to think of someone else, like they did in the days that you mention. I got this loaf of bread today, but my neighbour
has not, I will share it with him kind of thinking, today, how we reason is, I got this loaf of bread today, but tomorrow I might not, and I know my
neighbour is going hungry tonight, but what if I don't get a loaf tomorrow, so I must save it for tomorrow, is how we reason now and it's wrong.
Tech can switch on a lot of tech electronic lights, but it can't switch on the light inside, that is something we have to do ourselves, and we can do
it through mutual love. Things can be a whole lot worse than what they are, yes, but it's the people themselves that have changed, the people have
become darker and morbid, and that is where the problem is. We can handle any bad stuff life throws at us, tech or no tech, but only if we are in the
right frame of mind, right now, that is what's gone dark, and all the tech in the world can't help that situation.
