Thanks for the thread, bur also be aware of the comments about water filtration that are posted in the ATS Fukushima threads: As the Forbes magazine writer first stated, only a 2-part process -- first Reverse Osmosis, second carbon block filtration, removes all radionuclides from surface waters (think reservoirs, ponds, streams, rivers, the California aqueduct, and the like) in global areas downwind of Fukushima. That is why this 2-step process has been in use for years at the Savannah River Nuclear Power installation, probably the most radiation-polluted location on the face of the earth.

Hi,
There are different types of water filtration systems from on-the-tap faucet filtration systems dispensers and pitchers using carbon filters, to those using reverse osmosis technique.

*sigh*

They say that because fluoride can be naturally occurring, and not knowing the levels in your particular area, they don't know what the starting limits are.

These filters go by EPA standards. EPA has an acceptable limit of 4 mcl or ppm.

But being basic carbon filters, they most likely will remove all of the fluoride. They are just covering themselves in case an area has higher than standard fluoride levels.

R/O systems are nice but they waste 2 times the water for water filtered. You will lose 2 gallons of water for every gallon you gain. they are costly and usually only reserved for serious contaminant like volatiles.

900 ppm of what?

Homeowners should never be able to test their own water for this reason.

water filter companies make millions of people like on this thread. I have gone into people's houses to see them put in thousands of dollars of filtration systems because of suckers.

TDS is not "contamination". It is total dissolved solids. It is harmless, every day dirt. The most it will do is change color/change taste depending on where you are. It is completely a cosmetic problem.

TDS is a secondary standard by the EPA. Secondary means they haven't even put a number on it, and it is not regulated.

Exactly. It is like drinking de-ionized water, there is nothing in it.

I live in the Chicago area, and I use the zero water filters it is an obvious difference in the taste of the water, so far that's the best water filter I've come across and I used to have a katadyn reverse osmosis watermaker.
