Two-ton bomb forces evacuation of German town

news.ninemsn.com.au

An unexploded two-ton WWII bomb has forced 45,000 German residents to evacuate their town.

The 3m 'blockbuster' bomb was exposed on the banks of the Rhine River at Koblenz after water levels dropped sharply following one of the area's driest Novembers on record.

Wow, this is a big one and in a busy town. It appears they can't simply detonate it because of this,

The bomb is capable of destroying an entire city block.
After 60 years in water it's likely to be a little dicey.. A team of 100 "volunteers" will be helping out.. Let's hope all goes well for them. I wish them the best of luck in disarming this beast. news.ninemsn.com.au (visit the link for the full news article)

hahaha lool

What a dangerous attempt at defusing such a bomb. I get the bomb out , out to the middle of the ocean lift by helicopter drop it ,and have near by war ships target practice who can hit it mid air . If they miss then restart

"It is due to take place on Sunday so as not to disrupt Saturday Christmas shopping"

hehe of course not :p

The U.S Military has stopped dropping bombs in Iraq, and started dropping Chuck Norris, because he's cheaper and he does more damage. lool

WW2 bombs have simple timers and switches compared to now, if someone has mednium electronic experience he should be able to defuse it, plus it most probaly would of decayed by now, and it probally is also water logged and/ or a dudd since it never exploded in the frist place

huff-po on it - with video:
www.huffingtonpost.com...

but this is pretty "normal" - no hype in germany...in berlin they found one 2 meters below the doorsteps of a kindergarten and guess what - the bomb was in such a bad shape they had to let it explode in a close by park...

I just looked for the german articles regarding this and it's over 359 vehicles and 900 (!!!) volunteers helping. This is a monster organisation.

Over 200 patients had to be moved to different clinics. Clinics that have specific experience with whatever treatment they need so they cant be moved to just ANY clinic. These hospital transports also need absolute priority on the road also it's not just a few ambulances, it's gona be a LOT. 200 prisoners also had to be moved, people that commited crimes together have to be transported seperately, which is even more hassle.

This is an epic operation for Germany.
