No. They don't. They hire interns to read them and mass produce a response for bills that generate large responses from the people.

Politicians, once in office, have very little contact with voters.

Only if you include a check made out to their "Campaign Fund".

Make sure it is at least 5-6 digits to get past the staff members, otherwise more than likely it ends up in the circular file unread.

It would not surprise me if that is the only reason they open letters addressed to their public address in the first place.

Yes...anyone can portray anybody as anything...and that is where your reputation (the character and image you have worked years to cultivate and maintain) serves to DE-POOF what somebody else pulls out of thin air...

I believe what is alarming is this is America and no matter what the allegations you are entitled to a fair trial. This bill will give the US government the "freedom" to snatch you and imprison you as long as they deem fit which can be until your last breath without a trial. No phone call...no attorney...NOTHING!

The trial is covered in the bill...again, this bill provides for trials...

The bill does not suspend Habeas Corpus...

What is the problem??? The problem is your faith in our government to treat us fairly, after they pass a bill implying
they can pick us up and hold us indefinitely for committing a belligerent act. Giving our rights away does not make us patriotic, it makes us pathetic to have been fooled so easily. The Bill of Rights were put in place to protect us from an authoritarian government. We shouldn't give them up without a fight.

I do not have faith in anyone to treat me fairly...but if given the choice between my Congressman/Senator/President versus any terrorist or other Joe Blow offf the street, I would choose the former...There is nothing in this bill that detracts from my rights...if there has ever been such a thing...I was raised early on to understand that there are NO SURE THINGS in life, except for DEATH and TAXES...If somebody comes around tells me I must bow to worship them as a god, then I choose death...until then, Caesar can have the rest if he demands it...I cannot take it with me...and I can always get more where that came from, until the day I die...

this is truly absurd and i can't believe the Fed is getting away with this. For those of you on this site that do not support the OWS movement then shame on you 100%. this is corruption at is finest and without the OWS movement, we wouldve never heard about this. take a quick 15 minutes and watch this youtube video because it will really open your eyes to the f-ed up world we live in. it is entitled DEAR TAXPAYER THE OWS MOVIE and is 15 minutes essentially watching the crooks of the Fed and the US Government lying to congress. It's also 15 minutes of straight CSPAN which no american in their right mind watches because they think its boring. If you do not support the movement please show respect and watch the short film because it relates to not only the movement, but to every single American that pays taxes (aka everyone)

This act applies if you are a belligerent. Here is the definition from 10 USC 948(a)

(7) Unprivileged enemy belligerent. - The term "unprivileged enemy belligerent" means an individual (other than a privileged belligerent) who -

(A) has engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners;

(B) has purposefully and materially supported hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners; or

(C) was a part of al Qaeda at the time of the alleged offense under this chapter.

(8) National security. - The term "national security" means the national defense and foreign relations of the United States.

(9) Hostilities. - The term "hostilities" means any conflict subject to the laws of war.

You can stop worrying. Unless you're doing something covered by the laws of war against the US or its partners, you're safe. They're not coming after OWS or you. (Unless you've been very, very, bad. Explosives level bad.)
