And he makes some interesting points, a lot of people on this site have been saying for ages.

On weapons of Mass Destruction:

Blix said that he thought the US might initially have believed Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction - although its "fabrication" of evidence raised doubts about even that - but that Washington was now less convinced by its own claims.

"I think the Americans started the war thinking there were some. I think they now believe less in that possibility. But I don't know - you ask yourself a lot of questions when you see the things they did to try and demonstrate that the Iraqis had nuclear weapons, like the fake contract with Niger," he explained

On world wide effect:

"The US maintains that the war on Iraq is designed to send a signal to other countries to keep away from weapons of mass destruction. But people are getting a different message. Take the announcement North Korea has just made. It's tantamount to saying 'if you let in the inspectors, like Iraq did, you get attacked'.

And a lot of other good points. He must be pretty peeved to speak out in this way.

He was basically made inconsequential by Bush's actions...I'm certainly not surprised. I guess the real proof will be in the days to come, when we can stop ducking bullets, and have time to start the digging. The WOMD are there....

Curiously, anybody have any info on what ever happened to those rockets and the other bunker find? Strange we haven't heard one way or the other....(yet we heard about the pesticide find)....

I would assume that the Western media have grown tired of reporting that suspected WMD's aren't actually WMD's.

But you're right, Blix speaking out is a sign of his annoyance at the US administration. And possibly a result of a slightly smug sense of righteousness due to the continuing lack of any finds.

What he has to say is very important though "If a country perceives that its security is guaranteed, it won't need to consider weapons of mass destruction. This security guarantee is the first line of defence against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction."

That's a point made by Chomsky recently aswell. With preventative war, comes the risk that no countries feel safe, and hence proliferation of WMD becomes the only route to guaranteeing your safety...

In respect to his formal statement prepared 1/27/2003 Hans Blix is clearly a Hypocrite and a Liar.
