Afghan woman's choice: 12 years in jail or marry her rapist and risk death

This is so sickening.

The ordeal of Gulnaz did not simply begin and end with the physical attack of her rape. The rape began a years-long nightmare of further pain, culminating in an awful choice she must now make.

Even two years later, Gulnaz remembers the smell and state of her rapist's clothes when he came into the house when her mother left for a brief visit to the hospital.

"He had filthy clothes on as he does metal and construction work. When my mother went out, he came into my house and he closed doors and windows. I started screaming, but he shut me up by putting his hands on my mouth," she said.

The rapist was her cousin's husband.

After the attack, she hid what happened as long as she could. But soon she began vomiting in the mornings and showing signs of pregnancy. It was her attacker's child.

In Afghanistan, this brought her not sympathy, but prosecution. Aged just 19, she was found guilty by the courts of sex outside of marriage -- adultery -- and sentenced to twelve years in jail.

Here is one of the sadder parts.

The only way around the dishonor of rape, or adultery in the eyes of Afghans, is to marry her attacker. This will, in the eyes of some, give her child a family and restore her honor.

The eyes of Afghans need to be ripped off.

Shockingly, Gulnaz's case is common in Afghanistan.

CNN asked a spokesman for the prosecutor to comment on the case. The reply was that there were hundreds such cases and the office would need time to look into it.

That's old testament. To Christians, the new testament essentially supersedes the old. Christ is a lot less vindictive than his father.

But yeah, Sharia law is bad. And the OP has a point. That crap would never be allowed in Christianity today.

I saw this story, and this is the country we brought freedom to...
I say the woman marry the $#@tbag, then wake up the neighborhood one night a few months down the road screaming about how the man came in stabbed her husband and then left out the window.
She is guilty of pre marital sex.....
Those women over there need to stand up like our dames did over here just after the turn of the century.
Sure there will be some hardline idiots but I know there must be "real men" who care and maybe even love their wives.

The only difference between muslims and christians is that muslims actually listen to what their holy book tells them. The bible clearly says that this is right and that this is what should happen. If you are a christian then you advocate this and you have no right to talk.

You are correct but the christians realized that their god was flawed and rewrote the book and called it the new testament.
Now they can rat alomost anything they want along with many other new priveleges.
It is too bad that the other religious zealots could not see their folly.

What most people seem to not understand is that 3 not one world religion that has a lot of the same ancient books. The difference is how these books are used and interpeted. As the century have gone by many are there for history but haven't been followed for centuries. That is why the a lot of the world say Islam is still trying to act like its prior to 600ad. Anyone with a thinking brain should have no problem realizing what is wrong with these ancient texts and why they don't work. Apparently there are a lot of people without a thinking brain.

Yes well the whole raping thing comes down too translation now doesn't it? King James puts it this way "Deut. 22:28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;

29Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days."

Which matches very closely to Exodus 22 :16 "And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.

17If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins."



Furthermore if you back up a few verses in Deut. 22 (read the whole chapter people not just verse by verse) you see this Deut. 22: 25 "But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die.

26But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:"

This verse is the one that is actually speaking of rape, and as you can see the woman is by no means punished.

Christianity and Judaism by no means treat women the way Muslims do.

Read my earlier post. Treating women badly is not in the book. It's in the Muslim book yes, the the Bible no.
Another interestingly wrong thing that Islam practices is the rules on homosexuality. In Islamist countries if a man rapes another man, the man being raped is punished, because if he was not gay he wouldn't have let it happen?!?!? weird huh?

I guess the one doing the raping is simply having sex, so who could blame him right? But that other guy.... kill him.
