There's still time! The deadline for entries for this year's National Geographic Photo Contest is November 30. Photographers of all skill levels (last year more than 16,000 images submitted by photographers from 130 countries) enter photographs in three categories: Nature, People and Places. The photographs are judged on creativity and photographic quality by a panel of experts. There is one first place winner in each category and a grand prize winner as well. The following is a selection of 54 entries from each of the 3 categories. The caption information is provided and written by the individual photographer. -- Paula Nelson (54 photos total)

4 awesome colors and detail with the gecko

9 and this one did not make it to ATS as a supposed ufo? Is that a tractor beam I see on that zebra?

10 'flesh and bone' a real good contrast with appropriate title

14 those trees look kind of like giant dandelions

41 a great juxtaposition of motion and stillness, this one would make a good entry for other competitions imo

47 i dig this one too because the leaves look like they are floating on water, which plays tricks on the eyes

Thank you for the link!!! I had forgotten about this contest, and I had been meaning to enter. I had planned on entering one in each catagory, but unfortunately they are charging an entry fee this year. It is 15$ per photo. I find it a bit irritating. I know that local gallaries will charge entry fees, but those are exclusive. National Geo has thousands of entries. Seems like a bit of a scam to me. Oh well....here is the one I entered in Nature:
