This will be the fourth time that a new moon will orbit between the sun and Earth to cause a solar eclipse in 2011, just one eclipse shy of the maximum for the number of solar eclipses in a given year.

This is not Nibiru or Elenin but could be all in one our Moon.So let's watch the sky.

On Friday, the moon's penumbral, or outer, shadow will brush the southern belly of the Earth, initially touching down in the South Atlantic Ocean, about 600 miles of southwest of Cape Town.

TextWhile many in the U.S. will be recovering from Thanksgiving day meals and looking for ways to stretch their holiday shopping dollars at (hopefully local) retailers’ “Black Friday” sales, the face of the Sun will grow dark as the Moon passes in front of it, casting its shadow over the Earth. But it won’t be visible to American shoppers – or very many people at all, in fact… this eclipse will be hiding in the southern skies above Antarctica!

So what do you think is this the Black Friday?

I'm not sure what you're expecting to happen, but this will be an ideal time to watch the Antarctica webcams. Something tells me as the Sun grows dark, so will that mysterious "planet" some people keep saying they're seeing.

well it's just another eclipse, i think we had 6 in 2009 ( 4 lunar and 2 solar), by the end of 2011 we will have had 2 lunar and 4 solar eclipses.

I think the same thing will happen on this eclipse as it does and always has on any other eclipse.

The Moon will pass into Earth’s shadow, turning gradually darker in the night sky until it is colored a deep rusty red. It’s a wonderful event to watch, even if not as grandiose as a total eclipse of the Sun

You are describing a lunar eclipse not a solar eclipse.

bummer, not even close.

But its visibility will be limited to the most southern latitudes… outside of the Antarctic continent, only New Zealand, Tasmania and parts of South Africa will have any visibility of the event.
