This is AMAZING!! I figured the next step in technology, was our devices implanted.

Imagine catching up with your texts, social networking and perhaps the news without having to log on to a computer or even glance at a smartphone.

Messages and images would simply appear in front of your eyes, generated by a computerised contact lens.

Imagine being able to close your eyes on a flight, all while watching a movie (not the crap on international flights)

I know I want a pair of these badly.

They say they can also zoom in..... let that sink in... Like a Baws!!!!

The lenses, which would be inserted and removed like normal contacts, could also be handy if you are indeed enjoying the great outdoors, allowing you to zoom in on distant views.

Was placed into a rabbit’s eye without causing any health problems

I wonder how often this rabbit has to drive to and from work?

[color=dodgerblue]This sounds freaky to me.

I misunderstood when I originally posted... I didn't realize that they would be removable.

I still think it's a bad idea, though. People are way too attached to their gadgets as it is. This is only going to make it worse.

Sounds interesting but how would you zoom in and out?

You would still need a device for that, no?

I like the second part of the article a lot more;

"Meanwhile, Britons to try out bionic eye that could put an end to blindness"

That would be pretty cool...

Im using my DROID at school to comment so I can't embed but there's a video on YouTube with Dr. Michio Kaku talks about all the new inventions including the contact lenses. Im super excited as well..

I've seen many experiments that have mechanics respond to thought. Wouldn't that be an interesting twist, zoom in with your thoughts.

This will never hit the public market as it can be weaponized way too easy.

If it will be publicly sold it will always include a payment plan with fixed server connectivity. They can follow you every step and deliver "content" wherever, whenever. Of course the more you pay the more control you get over the contacts. The ones in the low segment have all sorts of limitations and the ones in the higher segment will become a status symbol and part of a kaste system. Combined with regenerative surgery there will be a new breed of superhumans because of these contacts. The golden eyes will become the new rulers.

There will be high penalties on hacking these and an underground movement for hacking them and duplicating them will rise.

*Just a theory

My guess would be that the lens would be able to judge where your eye is trying to focus...though that could be troublesome. I know I sometimes just stare at stuff unintentionally...that would give me a headache!

Wow, even more interesting now.
Imagine that, zooming in with your mind! Crazy!

But what about when I go past the college. All those nice looking ladies would overload the contacts!

College application.
Test on contact lens? hmmm

When this comes out, we will instantly see a sharp spike in SAT scores.

The first step on our way to becoming machines.

It's no surprise. If life wants to survive far into the future it will have to move from biological matter into synthetic metals and plastics.

I've always thought aliens may be sentient robots.

You would need some form of triggering device, probably wireless, I see a problem with hard wiring to a contact lens LOL. But, NASA did develop an electropolymer muscle that I replicated from their formula a few years back (different application of course), so the compression/expansion of a donut shaped muscle can be accomplished to manipulate the focal length of the lens. We needed a bit of power, as ours involved as mentioned a different and larger application, to make ours move properly, consistently and with repeatability, but maybe the developers of this "eye" product have mastered lower current operation using a more refined electropolymer formula?

I'd have applications that could use "in-eye" information transfer so I would grab a few pairs. I would just have to know that any "light" entering the eye was within the visible spectrum (not IR+ or UV+) and that there was no way to hijack the operation of the device by outside sources.

Can you imagine Obama or Harper with a pair of these that were being compromised by some hacking group... "Hello you Ignorant sl...ts and @..holes, we are gathered here today so I can f... you over under no uncertain terms. Yes, we sold the nukes to Iran so we'd have an excuse to bomb their @asses and start world war III, because without useless wars for the sake of our uber alies in Israel, their tools at Haliburton and the FED, we make no real f***king money off you trolls and anyway, you're all too stoopid to understand the plan. It's not what I can do for my country, it's what all you debt slaves can do for my handlers. So just let me continue to screw up the economy the way my FED handlers want (or BOC) and in a year or less you can wait your turn to get personally raped again, again and again... Please bring your own Vaseline, my enforcers get a bit pissed off if they have a rough ride."

Just remember the part from "Bruce Almighty" and the news anchor LOL.

Cheers - Dave
