I'm trying to understand how this missile is any different from a tomahawk cruise missile except hat it travels a little faster and may have less guidance control. To me it sounds like a hybrid between a scud and a cruise missile. not sure whats the big deal. looks like a crappy weapon to me.

THis is like a Tomahawk from HELL.

The whole point is to hit targets with precision at mach whatever instead of a few hundred miles an hour like the tomahawk.

Missiles like the tomahawk are now extremely prone to shoot down by counter missiles and even anti aircraft guns if spotted on radar. PGS seeks to alleviate this by ratcheting up the speed of the kill vehicle to a point where intercept is nearly impossible due to a narrow detection to shootdown window. Basically speaking this missile will already hit it's target by the time you can go from detection to countermissile launch.

And yes we are extremely far behind in hypersonic tech with Russia and India both having workable systems already available to the highest bidders. With things like the Club K hypersonic cruise missile available on the open market, we definitely need to catch up.

So they have a missile that can travel at 768 mph.
I feel like I am 50 years in the past.
how stupid do they think we are.

the Saturn 5 the rocket that went to the moon
and the space shuttle can fly faster than that.
And they do NOT fly by a pilot.
the pilot would be the last resort.

so they are rockets that are controlled from the ground.
so you can see they have the technology
to fly them over great distances.

rocket science has come a very long way.
we have fighter jets that can do mac3
that we know of.

and they want us to believe that they have ONLY
just made a rocket that can travel at 768 mph?

ERR.... actually if you bothered to read the short description at the intro of this thread you'd know that the missile traveled 3700 kilometers in a half hour. That's equivelant to 2300 miles in a half hour!!!

That works out to 4600 mph which works out to mach 6.83.
