The good old days of threatening the world with a jillion nuclear ICBMs are over. Drones work great, but are relatively sluggish. So what if we need to blow something up in a hurry? The Army's got a new toy. The Pentagon announced a rare successful weapons test today, claiming its Advanced Hypersonic Weapon—basically a rocket plane with a warhead strapped to it—made a successful, 2,400 mile trip over the ocean. No ordnance was packed in this time, just sensors to make sure the thing can fly straight. But the Army managed to demonstrate it can fling this thing at speeds over the sound barrier—768 mph.

So the coolest thing about this... thing is that it doesn't have to arc like a conventional missile. It can hug fairly close to the ground, making it much harder if not impossible to detect and shoot down. The Air Force recently tested something similar. I'm all for abandoning the nukes and perhaps this will be a step in the right direction. Cool stuff.

SOOO clever. I would much prefer the use of conventional warheads to nuclear warheads if anything had to be used. I don't think that's hypocritical, which I believe you were trying to imply.

Also; pic of flight differences:

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.
-John Stuart Mill

It has got to be better to strike one building with bad guys in it than to nuke half the countryside.

Kidding...

Yeah I get it as technology gets more accurate there is less of a body count but will that always be the case?

this reminds me of something in the past called the dynasaur a craft able to deliver weapons anywhere on Earth in minutes. Strange I cannot find any data about the dynasaur craft now

I think (hope) that will always be the case. At the very least if we avoid nukes we avoid poisoning huge swaths of Earth.

It took me about 30 seconds to get the water/telephone comment

I'd be concerned about it hitting something non threatening like an aircraft while heading for it's target.

Sorry...Mill does not fly my kite or float my boat...the ultimate collectivist...Fact is, war and weapons will continue to be looked at as the solution by people who are psychopathic/sociopathic and cannot come to meet someone else without distrust and fear...always wondering what the other guy is doing, rather than focusing on ways to improve their lot...

Not at all...I was in no way implying you were a hypocrite...not my intent...simply a statement of where I stand...Why not adopt the full scale approach anyway???

Remember what Morgan Freeman said to the kid on top of the school..."If you are going to kill yourself, do it expeditiously!!!"

As for the hope man will not turn to nukes, 1) We already have used TWO; and, 2) I would like to ask if anyone can identify one thing man has built since the dawn of building that he has NOT USED...everything mankind has built has been used...do not forget that...

My bad. I have trouble interpreting text sometimes
I thought you were being a bully. I get your point now.

This is good and bad news if they have crappy radar they won't be able to tell the differnce between that and an icbm.

The ability to strike anywhere in the world in less than an hour is what an icbm does not really ground breaking in that respect;

Thats not true. There have been hundreds of viruses created and unknown amounts of chemical weapons that have never been deployed or used.
