I currently have a pitbul and its the best dog I have ever had, its also the most loving dog I have ever had. The only thing it would every kill anyone with is its kisses

Its sad that the gangsta wanna-b's give them such a bad reputation.

Lol once I was walking on the beach when my pitbul was about 3months old, an old lady came up to me and said it was such a sweet dog and that she wanted to know what type of dog it was. As soon as I said it was a pitbul she immediately took two steps back and said oooh they are violent dogs
lol though I also had to laugh, but after I told her the truth about pitbuls she saw them im a different light

I have two female dogs right now. Mishka, she is my wolf/husky mix, and is the sweetest, most loyal dog I have ever owned. Super high energy, but very submissive, and extremely easy to train. Sidney is my catahoula/austrailan shepherd mix, and she is lazy, very stubborn, but also extremely affectionate. Dogs are what you make them. Any dog breed can be a great companion, excellent around children, and easy to train as long as you spend the time and energy that is required, which is different for each breed. The most important part is making sure that your canine companion knows who the boss is, that they are always below humans on the pecking order, and that misbehavior or violent behavior will result in swift and consistent discipline. Remember, they are at the end of the day dogs, and need to be treated in a manner that they understand.

my opinion

Pitbulls are like teenage children. They will stay at that teenage style temperament their entire life and are a loving dog. I say teenager because teenagers frequently screw up! They make mistakes and they can get into a great deal of trouble. Pitbulls do this at times. The difference is that society is not as understanding towards pitbulls and when a pitbull makes a small error it's often a case of injuring a person or another animal. They can also be stubborn and even rebellious which is another teenage trait.

We like this thread!

I know the Rotties beat out the GSD and pitbull in bite strength, but I didn't know about wild dogs. Thanks for sharing the info!

Jaia would like to say that his bite strength is pretty wicked and it always has been.

Sorry, I post pictures of them at the slightest opportunity.

Thank You Beammeup, I was about to post exactly the same thing. I keep Malinois/and/GSD's, Love them.
My GSD is a wonderful family dog, walks my daughter tot he bus EVERY morning, always with himself between her and anything around her, and he is a gentle giant. Good with people, but hates vehicles for some reason, Im assuming someone ran over him at some point that I was unaware.

My Malinois girl is a whole nother story. I can attest that they are hyper, and super vigilant, always "ON" is a great decription, and will tear you apart if you look at her sidewise(if you arent one of her approved pack) but in both cases, the dogs have been trained that way, and specific predispositions were encouraged.

My big GSD is our alert alarm system, and our Malinois girl is the weapon to back it up, we have seen them do this particular set up. The GSD sounds the alert, the Malinois arrives at top speed in attack mode, and hurls herself at the intruder, and the GSD has her back. Interesting to watch-but oh so terrifying, especially when I have seen the first hand damage that they can do together- so did the ER doctor before the guy went to jail-LOL.

I saw a video on Utube once about the the United Nations Malinois dogs, even knowing my girl it scared me to death, one launched itself over a six foot tall van and drove a guy to the ground while it was tearing out his throat(hostage situation), Then the handler had issues getting the dog off.

We are very careful about how we use our dogs, and super vigilant about where they are and what theya re doing, owning a Malinois/and/GSD together is like caring a loaded gun, you never take the safety off unless you actually intend to use it.
Just food for thought-training, to use the perdisposition of the different breeds are what make them what they are.

Cant say I care for pit bulls, all the ones Ive ever come in contact with have been mishandled,a nd had to be disposed of, or int he case of attacking something had to be choked until pass out to get them off-not good experiences I guess, Im sure there are great ones out there though as with all

Great thread! I adore dogs, have two now, usually have three. I didn't know that about the water-lapping.
I'll be watching mine today, their water bowl sits near my computer.

Anyway, I always love a good dog thread!

Not anymore on the big dogs. I've always had airedales and weimeraners, but I had to move to a smaller dog. As they aged, I realized I needed a dog I could pick up if I need too, so my dogs now are terriers. Wirefox and westies.

I have horses, too. They scratch my itch for a large animal. lol.

I wonder what it would be like to have a Pug? Those things fascinate me.

Anyone ever owned one or cared for one?

Actually....they're pretty happy to just sit around and do nothing.
If you want to keep the dog in shape though, you have to work it. Things like hauling carts and stuff is what will keep them in good shape.

Ha, yea idk. They always seem happier if they have a huge yard to run in then sitting in an apt. I always thought that dogs that are either chained up or have no room to run are the ones that are more likely to bite. Just like kids who sit on their butts and watch tv or play video games, they are always barking at parents and teachers. Not a healthy way to exert energy.

My friend has a pug and its pretty awesome. Lazy, but cool. It has breathing problems, but I think that is common in pugs.

My aunts dog had 10 acres of yard/farmland but he always chose to sit under his favorite willow tree. Maybe he was just lazy?
