Simply put, opposing views are welcome on this site whether the OP of a thread likes it or not.

The OP does not make the rules of this site, so really, they have no say. If they don't want opposing views, then they don't need to be posting in an internet forum....

Because no matter what, they will run into opposing view points.

So yes, opposing view points are allowed.

To any OP that does not like opposing view points..... Tough

I think maybe this is part of how ATS has changed over the years, maybe not though. Using everyone to help brain storm, it seemed easier progressing on topics and thinking critically and coming up with new ideas. The problem with what you propose it that a lot of the interjection is already known and the focus becomes combating dissenters rather than progressing and learning more. I think it depends a lot on the type of topic as well. An opposing view on some topics might be more of a hindrance than someone going against the grain on a discussion about a UFO video.

Like you could have a thread "Truthers: What's your top reasons?" and you'll have people coming in and posting "there are no reasons" or arguing with the reasons people have posted, which isn't the thread. Think about a Journal of Psychiatry that allows comments from Scientology to be published along with their results, think anyone would get anywhere? Progression in Psychiatry would probably slow by a factor of 5.

I'd rather see threads be unique and useful rather than predictable, which happens with way too many threads.

I could not disagree more. Although at face value your statement appears to be in compliance with the terms and conditions there are some assumptions being made here. Furthermore .... blah blah ... and then some more words ...

sorry, I just couldn't resist.
