CA Mayor chooses OWS over VETERANS Day Memorial-

How disgusting. This is clearly someone that wants to be in the spotlight and not be overshadowed by those darn VETS!!! IMHO this occupy b.s. is getting pretty old anyhow. What EXACTLY do these people think they are doing to help anyways? It is common knowledge how we have been screwed by corporations, governments, and so on for many moons. People are dying now and disgusting media hogs like this woman, the end is nigh flea-party

No, but that's what modern war is about, and the "patriotic culture" that supports it. Do you get it?

IMO, this is a great way to honor those who fought and died for our freedoms.

Instead of standing quietly at a memorial, or waving like a poltical robot in a parade, she will be exercising the very rights protected by our troops, past and present.

We all know these memorial events and parades are just a facade. She is actually putting forth action to match the troops actions.

Also, I wouldn't call her a media hog. It takes balls to take an unpopular stand and I am sure that many people will attempt to push her out of office for this.

Pretty weak. Glad I don't live in Richmond, CA.
Plenty of Veterans Day parades and events down this way.

Perhaps you have a point, just don't tell too many of them about the Veterans Day aspect and the meaning of the memorial they are occupying. The honor to the Vets will surely turn to vandalism and damage to the monument, as we've watched in other places, more than once now.

On this day of rememberence, I'd feel so much better about people using those rights protected for them by the Veterans on our past if it were Tea Party people, not OWS, standing at their monuments. The former would never consider reliving themselves within sight of it, for respect to the fallen. The former would (and HAVE) desecrated similar memorials, on the ignorant belief that troops deserve the hate of a bitter nation. Bah!

Several of the big camps are sitting on eviction notices for this weekend. For better or worse, I think much of this will be coming to a head and a close this weekend. Lets see how this all turns out by Monday.

Also your right I in fact know that OWS is a government contribed plan by the obama admin. Im sorry you dont see that. And if your such a tough guy why dont you answer the question I posed? Name ONE thing that this movement has helped. It has in fact cost TONS of taxpayers money in overtime costs paid to the police and public works dept. I work for the city and have personally made money from the overtime. So answer the question?

No one fights for my own freedom but me. The idea that troops fight for freedom is just wrong in my opinion.(Let me clearly state that this does not mean that I wish harm on ANY soldier)The past 2 or 3 wars/conflicts the U.S has been in has acted under the guise of terror threats. The big idea being, we shouldn't be there in the first place so there is no nobility in such a pointless battle. I'm sure some soldiers go there to protect their own citizens and do what's right where they can and that certainly is commendable, but if you want to protect my freedom, than refuse to serve in an unjust war. A right to something such as an opinion can never be taken away even by an entire empire, if you don't state your opinion it's because of fear of prosecution or other reasons, but it is your choice. Someone fighting in a war does is not defending my ability to retain or practice a right even if that's what they say their reason for fighting is.

I support the safety of ALL troops, on both sides, but i do not support the idea that they are protecting our freedoms.

As for paying police overtime... the same thing happens when a political figure.. or any media figure so much as gives a public speech.. in most cases the public foots the bill for that. Not to mention that the police presence seems a bit larger than they need.. and funny how police depts. cry poverty.. they are laying off police left and right.. have no equipment.. blah blah wah.. but when protesters show up.. plenty of police.. plenty of equipment.. certainly no shortage of "non-lethal" countermeasures.. even an LRAD.

Public works overtime? if you say so? And if so see my previous point.
