Today El Hierro erupts of coast Canary Islands emits powerful gases to surface,do you think that is far more dangerous then inland volcano erupting?

I wonder if there are cases of underwater volcanoes that threat human life in the past

Either way it's pretty cool. Also it's astonishing all the stuff that's happening these days regarding Earthquake & volcanic activity frequency.

Imagine being a diver and that thing starts. I'd pray for a great white to help me

Sorry to say, your link has a dead end.

Indeed interesting question, i did saw this news pass by last night. 2 beaches closeby are closed to prevent hazzardous situations with the gasses and water contamination.

Local people already talked about a cat behaviouring strange after eating something from the water there. (source was one of the tv news agencies, cant remember which one)

This is amazing a new island being formed very rare to witness this taking place. I would love to see it. www.dailymail.co.uk...

A brand new Canary island is emerging from the sea as an underwater volcano bubbles to the surface.

Magma off the Canary Island of El Hierro has been spewing 20 metres high as the sea boils with a smell of sulphur.

As it grows and gets closer to the surface, more and more debris such as stones start to shoot out of the volcano which, until now, has only shown its explosive power below the surface.

It is now just 70 metres from the surface and islanders are already trying to come up with a name for the new island. It is quite close to El Hierro and if it continues to erupt it could eventually meet up with the mainland.

It's not known at this point whether Ryanair, famed for flying to out-of-town airports, plans on opening up a route to the new-born island.

Homes have been evacuated and roads closed on the southern-most Canary Island following a government-issued warning about a possible volcanic eruption while shipping has been banned in the area.

The southern tip of El Hierro was shaken by a 4.3-magnitude quake late on Saturday as the underwater volcano just off the coast started spewing. The island, which has 500 volcanic cones, has already experienced more than 10,000 tremors in the past four months.

I was just about to post a new thread:

Looks like it could be dangerous to the people as it is spewing a lot of carbon dioxide out... tremors also being felt on the Island!

That's fine
We did mention gases as one of the crew did get a little to close. Might be worth putting it on again. The local people have been moved away from that danger at the moment.
