careful, I suggested something like this once on a thread, and my comment got removed for some strange odd reason by a mod. I guess I was inciting violence, but my question was innocent, and sounded just like yours. personally, I think if anyone try's to hurt you for no reason, be it cop or not, you have the right to defend yourself as long as there is proof that the attack made on you was unjustified. I see no problem at all for people to let the cops have it back if they're going to use violent force on people for no reason.

haha! A police state!

While I agree that this is a rather disgusting sight, I can assure you America is not a police state. In fact I think it is the only nation in this world that has not experienced any such state oppression. Of course this can ascribed to the fact that it's such a young nation, but still. Italy had the fascists, Holland had the German occupation, Russia had Stalin, China had Mao, Indonesia had Soeharto and so forth. But America has in that sense remained a free country, and still is. More or less...

PLEASE, ASSURE ME THIS IS NOT A POLICE STATE. You can't assure anyone of that, you can't even assure yourself of that. For the sake of all of us on ATS please open your eyes and take a good look around in the police state you are living in, if you're even American. The only reason I can think of that you would not think that America is a police state, is if you have been conditioned to think this way. IMHO that is.

This is insane madness....insane madness...what do those who WANT this really WANT?? How much power is enough? When everyone is subjugated, will they turn on each other? There isn't any honor among thieves...

Here is an article comparing Orwell's 1984 world (thru quotes from the book) with actual realities today (which are actually far more invasive and far more advanced than his version) www.prisonplanet.com...

It's like some folks have chosen the path of UGLY and are sticking with it - instead of live & let live, and enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the breeze, smile & feel the happiness.

It *could* actually be that way, but it's gone the other way instead - this is what a dysfunctional family feels like, or a bad breakup (never thought we'd end up here, but here we are).

Now, to be fair, this *is* Kalyug (the final phase before world reboot in a few thousand years - during this time, the thieves/baddies rule the roost, truth takes a beating, and good guys finish last and get their heads kicked in). However it does also say there is supposed to be a 10,000 year period during Kalyug which is 'really good'. I dunno when that begins, or is it already over? No idea. This last para is all hindu stuff.

I judge situations from the perspective of sitting on my couch watching a you-tube video. What's really happening, is it as bad as it seems? How can I know.. I just have to judge by watching the reactions of people.

Since these people seemed to not mind, and just stood there like idiots, I can only assume they approved of the police actions against them.. I'm a little tired of feeling bad for every idiot that gets poked with a stick by the police .. when people start fighting back I'll start paying attention again.

That is exactly what they should not do....And honestly, they would only become idiots if they were to turn violent.

Violence is not the answer. Why stoop down to the level of the lowly violent hooligans? What good will that do? Nothing! It will make the cops step it up even more, crack down even harder and shut down the protests all together.

With all due respect, I would listen to Martin Luther King Jr's call to non violent resistance over your call to violent reaction, any day.

In the United States of America each and every citizen has the inalienable RIGHT to Assembly.

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Read it for yourself.

NO law shall be made limiting the people’s right to Assembly, that means NONE. The people have this right and it cannot be limited in any way.

Now in a Police State the privilege of Assembly is limited and the Government can and will make laws that will limit the free exercise of this privilege.

Either you are a patriotic loyal American or you are NOT.

Only you can make the choice.

You do not need to support the view or side with the protester, but if you do NOT support their Right to Assembly, you have made the choice.

Like it or not if you do not support the Right of Assembly it does make you a disloyal Anti-American.

You do realize that America has more people incarcerated than any other industrialized nation on the face of the planet.

Can you say slave labor?

We now have cameras on practically every major highway..........all tollways, all public buildings, airports and soon I guarantee you all the big train and bus depots.............state controlling of the public's movements.

We are groped and filmed naked in order to fly on a plane..........unless you are one of the elite that has a private plane, I know because my nephew in law was a pilot for a billionaire and they did not have to go through the security the common man does.

Our children are groped and man handled...........and filmed. Once a picture is on film it's on film.

Fences going up........oh good to keep the illegals out...........well fences can work both ways, to keep people out but also to keep people in.

Our e-mails, phones, computer searches and all manner of communications are under constant surveillance. This includes long range voice pick up technology as well as me being partially deaf I can watch a film and lip read.

I've even seen hidden cameras in several bathrooms because I know what to look for.

My doctor now logs in and no longer writes a prescription, he e-mails it to Walgreens so our medicine and medical records are on data base

You are watched from the moment you leave your doorstep until you return home at night.

God, wake up....................we are already there.

Two books I highly recommend you read:

"Give Me Liberty" and "The Losing of America".

Now, take Bradley Manning, not a traitor but a whistle blower.............imprisoned and his prison photo showed he had been beaten up............hmmmm I guess he fell.

“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” - Benjamin Franklin.

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” - Hermann Goering

9/11 was organized to manipulate the American People by fear into giving up yet more of their freedoms.

Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government.– Henry Kissinger

The purpose of government is to rein in the rights of the people.– Bill Clinton

"There ought to be limits to freedom." -- G.W. Bush

-----------------

Personally sometimes I feel like the only human left in the movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Many of you folks simply don't see how little by little you're freedoms are being stripped away.

A police state...............watch some of the videos of peaceful people being beat up and shot with rubber bullets.

Well there have been several instances here (UK) where people have been assaulted by the police, remember the 6"4 cop who backhanded the tiny woman, then whacked her with a baton?

Why didn't they just jump him?

That crowd got angry but nobody quite has the guts to fight back yet...

I wonder when that will change

so I take it you have experience in policing potentially hostile situations?

Here is the deal that only people who have experience within policing such situations will understand. You have to maintain authority in order to maintain control. There are Police lines, you cannot just walk across them, it divides up the lines and can isolate officers, so these must be maintained. As you can see from this video, people continually tried to break the line even though the Police were saying that they couldn't. The mouthy woman who had no respect for the officers and blatantly had the guy there with the camera to get an officer in trouble, should have listened to the first officer, but failed, several times in fact. As Police Officers, you cannot lose control of authority, you lose control of the situation and surrounded by protesters, that is a bad place to be in.
Anyone who complains about Police brutality in the UK is absolutely clueless! Having travelled the world experiencing the different Police forces/services and having trained and worked in the Police I can tell you now the UK Police are the most placid! You people should go to any other country in the world and spout off and see what happens.

I'm not defending true Police brutality that happens in the world to innocent people. However, having worked in the Met, I have never come across a case that has been 100% brutality on an innocent person. I have come across provocation that has been responded by excessive force, but how can anyone say those people are innocent? Regardless of what you think, the Police are there to maintain control and order. The riots in London showed exactly what happens without Police and believe me, the apparent happy go lucky protesters would soon start calling the Police when their Parent's Middle Class homes are getting mobbed by unemployable yobs who would rather cave their heads in than listen to their ideas of change.

The Police are not 100% innocent, but please, try and be objective and if possible, know how they are trained and procedures they go through. At the end of the day, the majority are just workers trying to get to the end of their shift without getting beaten or killed!

In the real world of course, you get hit by anyone you have the right to defend yourself by striking back or any means necessary. This is not the case when it comes to "authorities" You would do some serious jail time for hitting a cop, even if he hit you first.

I know it's bad of me to say, and i know they (the protesters) probably did the right thing by not fighting back. But I SWEAR that i would not have had that self control. I would have fought back and probably ended up dead or unconscious (but not without a fight).

Maybe if I can find it I'll post it, that is unless someone else already did. But I was forwarded a list of Fed and state supreme court decisions about this exact situation. Apparently, EVERY citizen has the right to defend themselves, or in the case of witnessing the act defend another, when a cop or other officer illegally and/or unlawfully uses force against you, or another person. The list included accounts of people using up to and including deadly force to halt the attack of the cop/etc. Scary to think how many people out there think that cops can do these things without being held responsible.

Can you imagine the look on a cops face when they are informed they are unlawfully using force against you and if they do not stop you WILL stop them? I say protesters should carry pepper spray and fight back.

I had to register to say, myself...that video has left me feeling sick.

People are screaming in fear slammed between the pigs and the crowd being beaten. Who has the right to do that to another human? Disgusting behaviour.

I hate what as a species, we are making of this world.

Honestly I see a bunch of A-holes. The police and the protestors. Maybe it wasnt a peaceful protest and maybe the cops werent doing their job. Change the thread title to, "This is what could happen when people protest. The only reason the police were there was because of the massive protest, A durr-da-durr!

A officer of the law can punch you.................he/she has the full back up of "the system/the law" on their side.

Once you fight back, even if you did not provoke said fight.............you legally are going to probably (unless you have a lot of money and a really really good team of lawyers) get clobbered both physically, legally and financially.

Sorry but this is what living in a Police State is all about.

They have the power because they are the enforcers for the 1%.

We the people have little to no power.

Now if you are talking about escalating a violent incident, say a officer assaults a person, person fights back, more police jump in, and a huge crowd (thousands) goes nuts...............than you are talking the real possibility of either more cops and the national guard being called in with full military weapons.

In all honesty, unless the majority of our police, military and national guard side with the people the people actually have no power.

Now, some will say, oh but I have a gun, lots of guns and ammo..................you are now talking about and start researching American War Weapons.............we're talking drones, tanks, fire balls that can be shot over a mile away and take out your entire house and everyone in it before you even saw it coming.

The elite 1% now have the police and military working for them.

For the people and by the people is a dream.

America is a Police State, the Police (and if necessary the military) are the enforcers - the henchmen for the 1%.

Many will argue with me I'm sure - but even having a few good guns is no match for the US Military.

At this point, I don't know if a physical confrontation would be smart (a second revolution).

If everyone that wasn't a part of the 1% refused to go to work, you know - the pions that do the real work and everything grinded to a halt - maybe we might have a chance, but that isn't going to happen.

Now, these are just ideas off the top of my head, I'm not as experienced or as smart as many of you out there so instead of blasting my post.............how about some viable solutions on how to take our corrupt country back.

I'm glad you brought this up and NO you are not allowed to protect yourself or you will be charged for trying to assault a police officer and oh how they love to slap those charges on you at events like this........and that is no exageration and its high time we either do something about it or take the beating
