i don't pledge allegiance to a piece of cloth. or to dirt outlined with invisible boundaries, or to another human being or group of human beings.

we are all individuals and our allegiance should be with God and not earthly or man made institutions.

I pledge my allegiance to the TRUTH.
I think nationalism and patriotism is the root of incredible evil.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

While I'm totally cool with the pledge, most folks don't know the history behind it. It was created by Christian socialists in the 1890s to help instill the idea of nationalism and central management of the people (it was only couple decades after Reconstruction and some folks still had state loyalty ahead of federal loyalty). It was not adopted by Congress or widely used until World War II. "Under God" was the last change made in the 1950s.

While I dislike the tenets of socialism and I am a firm believer in separation of church and state, the pledge has evolved into something bipartisan and ideology free (other than the nationalist element and the "indivisible part which is a clear Civil War -inspired reference).

Naw greed is the root of evil, patriotism and nationalism are just some of the tools the PTB use to use us against each other.
I pledge allegiance to me and mine and anyone else who would aid me in the pursuit of alieviating sorrow and pain.
(Edit)

Maybe fear is the root of evil. It sure motivates people! Good points!
I see 'truth' as the light that cuts through it all. I am not talking about 911 truth or anything mundane. I mean the truth of our true nature and the nature of existence. We don't live in accord with Natural Law. Society is a huge lie right now. We are a work in progress. That can be changed...
