Nov 9 EAS Handbook

I agree that if you know all about this in advance, it isn't a major issue. There are a few things in this handbook that I find disturbing though. This is one of the better gems...

The audio portion of the test will state: “This is a Test.” However, for video service providers (a category that includes broadcast, cable, satellite, and wireline video providers), the EAN code will automatically generate a text crawl that will say “A Primary Entry Point station has issued an Emergency Action Notification . . . “ The text crawl will not indicate that the event is a test. (Please see page 12 for manufacturer-specific text crawls).

It isn't the 30 seconds out of my day I don't care for. It's the timing and 2 MONTHS of advanced notice they've given for what one would think is a normal test with nothing worth making a big deal out of. This also represents a level of power we've never seen focused in the hands of one area of Government in the past. The advent of digital boradcasting actually increases the power this would appear to focus.

Isn't it broadcasting and radio that ALWAYS get taken first in any revolt or unrest a nation sees happen? Oh well... This is ATS and a little paranoia goes with the territory. It might even be warranted now and then.

It is now 30 seconds. They have always been produced by the federal government for the past 45 years or so. I don't see the concern here. As a former radio DJ, I passed these messages many times.

The timing is probably the largest thing. The timing and the fuss they made about it so far in advance. That is really all that has ever had me scratching my head. I don't really see conspiracy theory here, just a level of tone deaf idiocy that someone in Government needs helped to the unemployed column for coming up with.

FEMA actually had this announced and being talked about 2 full months out...which is a first for a routine, garden variety test like I AGREE this is. The nature of the test being across ALL forms of broadcast communication in the nation at once makes it unique, as I'd noted...but not a way with any immediacy to it. The focus of power to the executive branch this way is a long term concern to correct.

Yu-55 is unusual in a few respects but primarily in that it's the largest object to be this close since the 70's, apparently. It's been known by anyone with a little interest in the subject for months and by those who are serious about things, for much longer. Now it's pretty much a public name and that was predictable back when this test was scheduled.

The Government should have known about this incredible overlap of a Disaster Communication system with what some segments of the public WOULD be expecting to be disaster for real (think Hale Bopp...it isn't unheard of, and to be expected these days, especially these days...). That is why I see it as one heck of a problem...just not in the same way as some others.

ya know they could of picked a different day to do this test..It does raise suspicion to what is going on..I heard that Obama will be in Hawaii on Nov 9th..with i guess the elite...i also heard that congress is going on recess really soon..like maybe now..I have to look into; it..I dont understated unless the engorgement and Neysa is ferarmongering us...Why of all days this drill has to been done on the 9th of this month..If nothing happens then some will loose respect for them even though they said nothing will happen..Cause of the fear they are putting into people...Then when something is really going to happen people wont believe them..

My self even though we here nothing is going to happen it raises a big concern cause they could of did the test on another day of the month or even next month but, they picked everything to be done on the day all know about a asteroid cumming in..
