A group of labor leaders, including the head of the city police and fire unions, sent a letter to Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake today asking her not to remove Occupy Baltimore protesters but instead continue dialogue. "Rather than create a confrontation, we believe it would be wise for the city of Baltimore to act with restraint and responsibility," the letter says. "Rather than remove the protesters, we call upon the city to work with representatives of Occupy Baltimore to find a solution that can maintain the protest location and respect the rights of our citizens." The letter is signed by the heads of the city's major unions - including various AFSCME chapters, the Baltimore Teachers Local 340, Fraternal Order of Police, Fire Fighters Local 734 and Fire Officers Local 964, and the City Union of Baltimore Local 800 - who say they support the purpose of the protest.

The heads of the Baltimore Police and Firefighter Unions have a different opinion of Occupy Baltimore than you do.

The One Percent is a 2006 documentary about the growing wealth gap between America's wealthy elite compared to the overall citizenry. It was created by Jamie Johnson, an heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, and produced by Jamie Johnson and Nick Kurzon. The film's title refers to the top one percent of Americans in terms of wealth, who controlled 42.2 percent of total financial wealth in 2004. en.wikipedia.org...

HOWEVER, they are particularly unknowledgeable about the actual workings of financial institutions and the why and how they are causing problems. Basically, most of America is financially illiterate, and OWS is no exception. ATS is no exception in that matter, either. You don't know what the giant banks and megacorporations are doing, specifically, that is wrong, or why it's wrong.
e.g., when I try to explain it to people here, I get either confused responses, or appeals to emotional arguments, mostly the latter. This is actually the exact reaction that OWS people give as well. Until people are ready to listen to the specific issues that need to be addressed without yawning or making emotional, regurgitated arguments, nothing will change.
Back to OWS - they lack in specifics of how or what to fix. Why? Because they don't understand the beast they are fighting. And that's the problem.
I can see why you got so upset though. You were probably hoping a reply like mine wouldn't find it's way on to your thread until the fifth or sixth page huh?

Why must so many of these threads exists attempting to portray every person at any occupy movement in a negative light? I mean with any protest or any large gathering you will have people that are strongly informed, somewhat informed, and not informed at all. Its just the way things go within a crowd. However, at the occupation in my city they have a free library set up with books ranging in topics from economics to social inequality. Also, there are people there who set up shop with the intention of getting people informed. So....

Welcome to what has been the "social and civil unrest" forum for the last four weeks.
I'm sorry if this is harsh but it's really immature and sad that we can't find a common ground here. Both supporters and people who oppose OWS simply cannot find a common ground to stand on, and unless we do this forum is going to be filled with the same stuff, over and over.edit on 11/1/2011 by JackBauer because: (no reason given)
