I bet that less than 10 percent of the current population of the UK are descendents of any king. And I'm talking about the UK...

England has been a monarchy for just over 1000 years.

60 million people (50 million being European) currently live in the UK.

If just one king had only two children, and those two children only had two each after 40 years, and it continued that way until today, their would be 33,554,432 people who could claim a line of ancestry based on direct genealogy.

Now how many kings has England had, much less the rest of Europe?

You do the math.

And yes. A great majority of people in the US with European ancestry can claim royal lineage through genealogy. It is simple math.

That's a broad claim.

Not so much.

It is exponential.

If a king has just two children, those two children have children, etc. etc (and that does not even take into consideration extra-marital children).

True.

But many people believe that it's the inbreeding that changes things.

cousins marrying 2nd cousins all through the bloodline, etc. etc.

That makes the geometry different.

Some branches die out also, leaving the main tree trunk along with thicker branches.

Some will ask;

If this many people today are all descendants of Charlemagne, then who are today's descendants of Charlemagne's neighbors who had no relation to him? Say 500 people from his generation who were not related to him.

It does change the geometry, but even with inbreeding (which is highly speculative in and of itself), the numbers do not lie.

Who knows?

All lines get mixed sooner or later.

That is my point.

I can claim Charlemagne as a direct descendent. I can also claim one of the Henry's.

I am sure that I have some of their neighbors mixed in as well.

The world population was 300 million then, it's 7000 million now. I would certainly wager a lot of people are descendants of famous historical figures.

What grade did you quit math ? 1st ?

US has 350 million people......the earth now has 7,000,000,000....in 2008 the earth had more than 3 billion people .

We didn't gain 4 billion people in 3 and a half years.....

Seriously dude.

the "300 million then" might mean at the time of "King William I of Scotland"? (late 1100's period?)

i think 7000 million does = 7 billion?

I think we just discovered that EVERYONE in Western Europe, and EVERYONE in the whole world who has some European ancestry, is a descendent of Charlemagne.

We are all cousins. Charlemagne is a common ancestor of us all.

Well... This blog claims that ALL of us are descendants of Charlemagne:

sandwalk.blogspot.com...

And there is an "Order of the Crown of Charlemagne in the United States of America":

www.charlemagne.org...

The "Order" seeks to reunite everyone who did a genealogical research and found itself being a descendant of Charlemagne.

This is very weird. We are all cousins...

If you believe in the Bible, we're all related by blood line. So what's the big deal??

You two need lessons in reading comprehension! I was talking about the era of their ancestor king, of course.
